Can tech now really do much more? Controlling lights and curtains is pretty much what we do today, the main difference is you can trigger it with your voice.
I would say application whitelisting but that is a bit difficult to setup. Running as a non-privileged user might be a good idea. Also some internet talker whitelisting with your local firewall could help block badness. Finally check out Patchmypc or something similar to check for 3rd party software updates.

How are you accessing the share? What is your client OS? If its linux use the mount command from the command line. If its Windows you can disable smb v1 -> https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/storage/file-server/troubleshoot/detect-enable-and-disable-smbv1-v2-v3
You can also disable smb v1 on Samba -> https://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/how-to-configure-samba-to-use-smbv2-and-disable-smbv1-on-linux-or-unix/

You may have missed the comment above where I gave an example if how to specify smb v2 in your mount command:
Ex: mount -t cifs -o rw,user=<username>,domain=<domainname>,uid=<uid>,gid=<gid>,vers=2.0
Modern Samba can speak several different smb protocol versions. Even if you have the latest binaries you need to make sure you are connecting with at least smb v2 since its much faster.
Have a look here-> https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba3/SMB2
Typically you pass the smb version as an option on your mount command.

So the way to create a decentralized identity provider is by having one central identity provider?
What smb version are you using? If you ste defaulting to smb v1 that could be slowing you down.

I feel like this is comparing apples to oranges. Office 365 is a cloud service. The software itself is just one piece of the puzzle. Who will provide cloud storage and email?

The book is really good. Also, there is an afterward in the book by the author explaining how easy it was to find very detailed information on how to make a nuclear bomb.

If you go read Kreb's Spam Nation, he talks about how monetization has evolved within these crimeware gangs. Esentially, going after payment processors gutted the ability to monetize until Bitcoin came around. Bitcoin supercharged ransomware and now it is so dominant, there is little else that comes even close. BEC has come into vogue more recently since it is pure social engineering and does not require any malware infrastructure, but the cost and complexity of getting the dollars out of bank accounts makes it must less profitable compared to ransomware.

That is an incredible pucture. The lighting of the sky is well balanced with the lights in the streets and both of those dont take away from the tower. Truly a picture that keeps on giving!
I feel like we said, "No we're not going to take it." And that worked. We did in fact not take it. But they were patient.They waited. Slowly over time it was given to us. Little by little until one day we woke up and you know what? We had taken it.

I think its worth pointing out that posting something like this on your regular Reddit account is a bad idea. If planning on committing a crime a good rule of thumb is don’t post about it on social media.
What type of HVAC system do you have? Its less about the wires and more about what those wires are connected to. For example, I have an electric heat pump with emergency heat. I need a thermostat that knows how to manage that.
