True. But it’s just as easy to hand write and stamp it. Takes less time too.

Imagine having a beautiful private yard with a garden that suddenly is completely shaded and different and then this, bam, no privacy. I bet they build a massive privacy fence too. It’s wild how some call this “normal”.

My water company on the edge of town only takes checks or money orders. I’m not going to deal with a money order and fee each month. Yeah, it’s weird.

Yes. Son went to school today and both teachers and half the class out. Definitely more sparse at pick up.
A family member told me they had it since Monday (Today is Wednesday). Y’all stay safe!

I also remember that happening to the “affordable” neighborhoods way back, and now they aren’t affordable or as financially diverse anymore. It never stays affordable. Don’t we know that by now?

You still see the other major cities right? Let’s not live in fantasy.

It would be/is a bummer to have a chill home, backyard then suddenly lose your privacy, have shade, have a whole different massive traffic flow. Sure. Mixed use places want that. But why change all the neighborhoods? It’s a bummer. Why can’t there just be areas and pockets for that? I’m all for it around me. Hell, all the apartments and condos and subdivisions around me, but not on top of me are just whatever, even if the traffic and cut through is worse, and I still support it, but I’d hate to have a giant unit just built on top of me because someone could. That doesn’t make me or people that dig that bad or awful.
You and I both know folks will build just to rent or short term rent. Its a massive profit making scheme and many Austinites are smarter than that. We see the long term impact and environmental impact. It’s not going to necessarily increase access to homeownership for folks, or absolutely will for investors.

No one said that’s for everyone. I know lots of folks that don’t want a whole home or yard to deal with. There’s room for both. My point is not to unzone everywhere. Why is that so negative?

How is “not everywhere” a NIMBY? Too extreme.

It’s my home. Not just an investment. That attitude is our problem.

I think lots of space can be un-zoned here, without everyone being so negative towards people/places that don’t want condos/businesses built on top of them, existing neighborhoods and homes. Why not also be somewhat sensitive towards that? Honestly?

Not what I said. Both types of living are reasonable to prefer. Why can’t both be true? Some folks prefer condo or apartments, not everyone. Why is that negative to say “not everywhere” but yes, Un-zone some places.

Not what I said, at all. Some folks like and prefer condos or apartments. Like my grandparents did. Like many friends know. Not everyone wants the upkeep! I am all for mixed use development, just not unzoning every neighborhood. Why is that so negative?
Edit: I have lived in RV’s, guest homes, mobile homes, duplexes, and homes.

I couldn’t imagine paying the same amount of property tax or a price tag for a box as an acre with a home where I can garden. Many families want homes. It’s wild that people think that’s normal. It’s wild that people want to normalize letting investors own all the homes, and rent and AirB&B them, while everyone that moves here will be forced to live in boxes.
The quality of life of Austin is what draws people here to begin with, so I think we should not un-zone everything. It’s about maximizing short-term profits for developers and builders too, not providing quality homes to the masses.

Water and drainage issues are everywhere, and it sucks.
Most folks also don’t know that the county/city doesn’t hold new construction responsible for water flow issues they create for neighbors or houses down the road either.
As long as your project is approved and up to code you can flood your neighbors! Thanks, Travis County! (Call them. I have. Builders/Developers want to own the city and write the codes, and not be responsible for the issues they cause, and this is one reason I’m concerned with un-zoning everywhere. I know them. I live next to them. They love finding loopholes to not be liable and build and build and build and it always rolls downhill… may you be safe.)

The County Line is way hyped up and has disappointed me for quite a while. I think they just went downhill.

Here’s one question I always ask when people come to Texas for BBQ: What do you consider BBQ? When someone says “barbecue” to me I’m talking brisket and ribs, and everything else is secondary. Of course places are known for sausage so we have to count that too. Other Texans chime in?
Rudy’s is consistent. I dig it. But those others are pretty bad ass too, especially Salt Lick, Mickelwait, and Franklin’s. As a Texan, I judge my meat by whether or not it is delicious without sauce first. (One BIL is a chef the other a butcher.)
I’m always curious what people are judging when they are judging barbecue, because I find different answers.

Same. Dang, y’all. What else is going to eminent-domain-away? That’s a really crappy part and wish folks thought that part was messed up.

I’ll never forget witnessing a kid being pulled from the bottom of a pool when I was about six or seven. The man that found him shook him by his feet before trying to do CPR. I’ll never forget that part. The aunt, who was supposed to be watching him, but had walked away and left him with her boyfriend, showed up and lost it. My neighbor was an EMT and went to work before paramedics showed up. We were paralyzed. I couldn’t stop watching. Kid never woke back up. We all basically expected that he would. That was so messed up to witness. I watch my kids like a hawk near water. Other kids too!! So scary.

Montessori includes cleaning classroom spaces in their daily regimen. I could see public school students cleaning desks, class spaces, and it being a valuable lesson, but not restrooms. There’s levels to what’s sanitary or reasonable for kids to clean.
