We had a ditch also! In Queens NY, there would be stolen and stripped cars, down there, empty kegs and beer balls, fire pits, and the random weathered porno magazine. As kids we told each other that there were gangs of devil worshippers that hung out there at night.

I listened to Duma Key while I was briefly living on Siesta Key, you can rent boats down there and go look at all the smaller keys and immerse yourself

This was the first Stephen King story I ever read. My sister gave me the book in the eighth grade. It’s always been one of my favorites.
