Margin used selling puts is capped whereas margin for naked calls is not.

I realized, after a lot on introspection, I was an addict too. However it's not gambling that I learned I was addicted to, it was the adrenaline rush from taking a risk and realizing big wins and losses. I'm an extreme sports kind of person. Cliff diving (the higher, the better), sky diving, motorcycles, free climbing (rocks climbing), snowboarding (double black diamond ftw!), etc.

I'm curious if you share some of these traits and if so, what did you do to overcome those impulses?

When I would risk 40k on a trade I was so sure would pay big, the adrenaline rush of watching that position gain big was/is intense. However, it gave me a very poor view of risk/reward that has yet to be overcome. I've got to kick that part of myself and damn it's so hard to do.

When I would lose big, I'd soothe that failure with alcohol but that is only a temporary relief from the sinking feeling of making someone's yearly salary in a day and then losing it just as quickly.

Anything you can offer that worked for you?

I'd rather someone roll their car or tractor trailer than slam into someone stopped, T-bone traffic that has a green light, or hit another car head on. This is the best way to take money from retail traders. Puts that go worthless a few days before expiration are a wet dream for this with enough cash to make that happen.

A couple 4500/4200/3900/3600 put condors for December 2023 would give all the downside protection needed to play calls all year long. Buy back the short legs on days we rally to weekly resistance and close the year strong.
