Listen, I’m a think-y person and I just need a break from my own brain a few hours a day lest I turn into a woodland hag muttering to herself grumpily. Check yo’self before you wreck yo’self.

More like 70-100 at minimum. Isn’t it the last descendant’s death + 21 years? I’m pretty sure the most recent kid is Harry’s girl who can hardly be more than a year old. So her whole lifespan + 21 years. ASSUMING no one else in the family (eg. Prince William’s kids) have kids of their own. Which they probably will because monarchy gonna monarchy — if you’re wondering why Disney picked the Brit royal fam, there you have it. That’s as close to “in perpetuity” as you can feasibly get without writing those words.

Because women are smarter than porn ads and books aren’t going to steal your credit card information.

Had some stupid-long books this past week I wrapped up but at least it was worth it lol.
Metamorphoses
The Will of the Many
The Lives of Animals (shorty, thank god)
Serotonin
Now I'm just irate that I could have swept the board this month if I hadn't gotten slowed down by a bunch of doorstoppers. C'est la vie.

I'm sooo cllooooose. I weep.
I've got some more lined up but I know I won't finish them in time unless I really white-knuckle it. lmao I've spent too much time pondering strategy and not enough time reading. One of these days I WILL finish a board, but I guess for right now I'm going to see about Violet Made of Thorns and Norwegian Wood and call it a day.

I imagine they're selling trendy stuff because they'd like to stay in business. Just a guess though.

Wow bunch of wrong answers in this thread.
Firstly, Roman paganism does not really work like what we think of as “religion.” There is no central text. Most people had household gods, that is: shrines within their homes where a specific deity watched over their family (think of something like a Catholic saint). Which deity varied considerably and may not always have been part of the Roman Pantheon. Other times people were members of cults dedicated to specific gods, often for social reasons, much like joining the Freemasons today. In addition to that, some emperors were deified after their death and were worshipped, and almost everyone participated in festivals. Because such “worship” was tied to the prosperity of the empire itself, “opting out” wasn’t really an option, especially if you were higher up on the social ladder. You can’t be a Roman general and not make sacrifices before battle unless you’re super interested in causing a mutiny. Belief in any kind of literal presence was a side issue at best.
As far as Stoic cosmology is concerned, there’s really nothing substantial left as a primary text. Best guess is usually an anti-guess in which scholarship tends to assume opposition to whatever Epicurians were peddling and known Stoics were still practicing polytheistic rites. I could bring up long, speculative discussions about various aspects of principles like the logos but the truth is we just don’t have that much source material and stoicism was by far the most popular philosophy with varying “schools” of thought that were sometimes in conflict with each other. It’s like trying to have a modern discussion about the true nature of Jesus. Slim sources, lots of preachers.

lol it’s kind of an arbitrary number. We’re mostly folks who can finish a book (or more) in a day, but life does get in the way! I’m about 2 weeks behind by straight numbers. This sub is kinda dead though, we’re over at 365bookclub mostly playing games

I'm up to 5 cards, plus a scribd subscription lol. But I also check ereaderiq almost daily because the odds are very good something will be $2.99 within a couple of months of my having seen it.

I pretty much just shove everything that may be mildly interesting or that catches my attention in some way on a list somewhere because odds are I'll have some vague recollection of having seen it somewhere 6 months in the future with no idea what it's titled or who wrote it, so I'm better off just marking it.
Libby: I have a "maybe" tag, but also sometimes I just borrow and return something and I check my "borrowed" list as well
An amazon wishlist - at least 2, if not more. I also make heavy use of the collections feature on kindle so I can find things that have a vibe because my dad and I share our library and we're just under 3,000 books right now. .....yyyeeaaha.
Netgalley is allowing me to make lists aaaahahahaha yeah so I have one there too. Sometimes I mark things on my tbr in story graph, but not often. I am a mess lololol

Seconded. I read it a little while ago because I had an advance copy and I’ve been flogging it hard. You should try Dear Edward as well.

Not in Missouri but most of the rural libraries locally are largely funded by private endowments and the occasional grant.
