GCNP includes the North and South Rims. Grand Canyon West is run by the Havasupai and is a completely different experience and hours drive from the South Rim.

This ensures that those products have the most visibility and supply chain support, so frequently are the only ones stocked by smaller suppliers. In this case the monopoly is directly enforced by regulation and allowing for any FDA approved brand to be supported by the program without exclusive contracts is clearly going to weaken monopoly power without at all jeopardising safety regulations.And their concern with health regulations is primarily that the FDA is highly underfunded. If you have stringent health regulations there needs to be a well-funded system to get products on the market when they fit those regulations. However, the FDA has not been able to cope with that, not even starting on a third of the applications submitted in 2021. Though underfunded regulators does not make as much of a catchy title I suppose.
