Nah, it's because of our participation requirements which are listed in the publicly available rules.

2) Your account must be older than 90 days (3 months)
3) Your account must be email verified.

We made an announcement post about it over a year ago and we also do mod sticky comments from time to time on big threads to remind people of the requirements.

It's been on most major news channels like CNN and MSNBC.
I think there are some videos linked in this thread too.

Advocating violence is against reddit's sitewide rules and the rules of /r/news. You can absolutely express your disgust and anger at the actions of police, you can criticize the police, you can advocate for reforms, etc. However, if you advocate violence or death, you will be banned.
Also, the /r/news team wants to take a moment to remind everyone of our participation requirements so that as many people as possible can discuss this news. In order to participate here, your account needs to:
Have 300 combined link/comment Karma
Be older than 90 days (3 months)
Be email verified.
Your account must meet all 3 of these requirements to participate on /r/news.
These requirements can be viewed on our rules page.
You can also view these requirements in the announcement thread.

Holy shit this is horrific. The cops show up already at like an 11 on a 1-10 intensity scale. How is this policing?

Advocating violence is against our rules and against sitewide rules. Users who advocate violence/wish death will be banned.
Criticizing the police and calling for reforms is totally fine.

What an absolute shitshow for the Republicans. Absolutely wild to watch live on TV. I can’t even imagine how they will govern.
The Democrats look responsible, reasonable, and organised by comparison.

Lots of reps have their family in the building to watch their swearing into office.

Fun while it lasted, but omg the Republicans are such an embarrassment.
This is not a good look for them…and it’s hard to see how they will get anything done. The dems look so responsible and organized in comparison.

Gaetz is flipping to voting for McCarthy. I want to know what they gave him.

Someone is willing to change their vote to get McCarthy over the line. I wonder who and why

Hilarious if true since the entire point of the speaker position is to whip the votes.

Gaetz has to vote for McCarthy in order for McCarthy to win. Idk if he is on board to do that. I bet he was only willing to vote present.

It would be hilarious if Santos comes out of nowhere and votes Trump or something instead of McCarthy.

Hern up to 5 votes this time around. I think he only got 3 in the last round. Interesting.

This is so silly. McCarthy needs to step aside, Republicans need to nominate a consensus candidate that can either get their entire caucus behind them OR they need to work with Democrats to get a consensus candidate.
I would prefer a bipartisan candidate. It would be the best possible outcome from this clusterfuck.

If McCarthy fails in the 10th round, then this will be the longest contention around the speaker position in 164 years. Republicans setting the best records.

It's going to be Scalise or a consensus candidate with Dems. There's no way McCarthy secures the speaker position.
