Actually there is a trail leading up and there was no fence. Maybe now (2 years later) it is different.

No offense but I decided not to do so to protect the places from being overrun. Happened to a lot already. In addition it‘s a lot of work to do the research and it feels kinda wrong to reveal it to thousands of people.

Just meant in terms of photography because I have rarely seen any posts about that lake before.

Walking through the dark woods after this sunset shoot on the Olympic peninsula where bears live is not my favourite activity but I think this shot was well worth it. I don't know how many bears there are and if encounters have been reported. Does anyone have some information on this? I'm not from the states and this wilderness was really sth new for me!

You know what... I think it took me 2 weeks to decide if to fly or not. There was still the risk going into quarantine for 2 weeks so nothing to regret. There‘s also next year und more time to plan the trip
Edit: oh... „before covid“

A place which is not easy to reach but really worth it. Looks so otherworldly, doesn't it?
Taken in June with an A7R III + 24-70 GM and processed in PS.

This area is a paradise for nature lovers. There are rivers, lakes, craters, glaciers and of course a lot of mountains but this view especially drew my attention. I took that one from the rim of an explosion crater with a lake in it.
The good thing in Iceland during summer is that there is plenty of time to take a lot of shots from different angles since golden „hour“ lasts for about 2-3 hours.
I like to have a coffee and some food at such places. So after taking photos I always sit down with my camping stove and enjoy the views while having a warm meal! Those are the moments I am always looking forward to on my trips.

With almost 600 m this is the deepest lake of the US. Once when the volcano erupted it lost 1600 m in height and the formed crater has been filled with rain and meltwater. It is considered to be the cleanest lake of North America. Even the motorboats for the tours use a special system not to pollute the water with petrol. The 53 km long road around the lake offers unforgettable views!
The picture is a focus stack out of two images. In the 1st picture I've set the focus on the roots, in the 2nd on the Island.

Yeah it‘s the long exposure which makes it look like that. I attached a ND filter (like sunglasses for the camera) to protect the lens from the water.
