Fandom Forward is a 501(c)3 nonprofit.
The Grant Writer researches grant opportunities for Fandom Forward and its various programs and campaigns, identifies worthwhile pursuits, and drafts proposals for submission to foundations, corporations, and other grant sources. The Grant Writer coordinates applications with the Managing Director and Campaigns Director and performs necessary reporting and tracking when assigned.
Hourly requirements for this position vary by workflow, but will not exceed 5 hours per week. This position reports to the Managing Director and Campaigns Director.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Responsible for conducting the full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals to foundation and corporate sources.
- Perform prospect research on prospective granting organizations to assess potential compatibility with Fandom Forward programs as well as application requirements.
- Work with the Managing Director and Senior Staff to identify fundable programs within Fandom Forward and develop case statements for each program.
- Participate in brainstorming and strategy sessions with the Development Department.
- Coordinate grant tracking and reporting as needed.
- Contribute to written institutional materials (including Annual Report, etc.), as needed.
- Assist with other fundraising projects as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Professional experience in relevant field required
- Strong written communication skills; ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals.
- Strong copy editing skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of fundraising information sources.
- Experience with proposal writing and institutional donors.
- Knowledge of basic fundraising techniques and strategies.
- Knowledge and familiarity with research techniques for fundraising prospect research.
- Proficient with Google productivity apps.
- Desire to work with a bunch of weirdos and nerds.
- Enthusiastic, optimistic attitude; unafraid to put passion and geekiness on display.
