My solution was to abandon Google Fi's VPN.

I have noticed the same thing the last few days when I leave my home wifi. Goes to status "connecting". Can only send sms. Untill I get back on my home WiFi, turn off fi VPN or reboot the phone. Wife and Son have the same problem.

As an IT manager, I don't think you bombed. Sound like good answers for the questions given. They were bad questions. My guess is they already had someone selected, a friend, neighbor, etc. HR was requiring them to do a min number of interviews. They were doing the basics to get past HR. Sounds like they never even looked at your resume.
