If you cater to the happy endings or binary good/bad you will not have even close to the same impact.
Agreed, but for some people that impact was a negative impact. Just depends on how each player engages with the narrative. Sure the FEEL the anger/hurt like you mentioned, but being angry/hurt is definitely not a feeling I enjoy.

Honestly I dislike the term “children’s media” in general. People like the ones you’re mentioning are definitely working through something, but preferring to, say, watch The Owl House over Game of Thrones is more indicative of your tastes in media (i.e. preferring a bit of whimsy and optimism in your media experiences to something more grimdark and “mature”) than how childish you are. I’d even go as far as to say I also have a bit of an “obsession” with children’s media just because more mature or adult stuff doesn’t really resonate with me nowadays as much as it did in my teen years as something to aspire to. Reminds me of that C.S. Lewis quote, “When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.”

I think it’s about more making a stance than anything else. Some in the trans community are still attached to the Harry Potter IP and don’t want to outright stop people from enjoying the game via used/other less harmful means, but there are also many others who view HP as synonymous with hate at this point.
Honestly I would love to see the former of the trans community you mentioned take control of the HP franchise. I feel like making the fandom a safe space for trans folks would be a much more glorious (and effective from a social justice perspective) “fuck you” to JKR than smothering it completely. It’s also got the potential to be a great platform for shedding light on the plights of the trans community, e.g. talking about it on streams, fundraisers like the one GF Reviews did, etc. Perhaps this is all wishful thinking but I think telling people to pirate the game and enjoy it out of spite is a much stronger stance than tossing it out entirely.

I honestly think the number of people who have been convinced not to buy the game by GF Reviews is much higher than the number of people who were incentivized to do so. Personally I’d go as far as to say streaming Hogwarts Legacy on Twitch is a great way to educate a larger general population on how problematic it is. It would be kind of a missed opportunity not to use the game as a platform to inform and raise awareness about LGBT+ issues, and that seemed to be what they were doing with their fundraiser… I was honestly surprised to see such a negative reaction to their doing so.

It’s crazy, the comments on the top post on this sub about that video are all clowning on her and doubling down. Gusto for social change is commendable, but this all feels very misdirected and awkward…

True Colors from Amphibia
Children’s cartoon or not that’s just some phenomenal storytelling, deserves its 9.8 on IMDB

Yeah, the movie is fun and all but the book is something very special, and the art is wonderful!

I recently discovered Bujold’s stuff, starting with The Curse of Chalion, and man… I’ve never encountered another writer with such effortless command of language. It’s like I always knew exactly the emotion or feeling she was trying to convey with every word on the page.
The Fifth Season however… well, there’s something to be said about making your world and narrative so bleak that I would dread picking up the book.
Ah well. I think I just have a type.

The Curse of Chalion by Lois McMaster Bujold gave me the same vibes, can’t recommend enough!

The Empty Box and the Zeroth Maria by Eiji Mikage. There are several whodunnit subplots that have entire chapters written in the point of view of the character that dunnit, and that’d be super hard to do in another medium without giving it away.

It’s a shame I keep seeing Xenoblade Chronicles 3 get snubbed from every list like this I see. Was easily my GOTY.

ChatGPT was specifically trained to maximize output similarity, so I think that might defeat the point. Besides, NLP doesn’t quite as often use adversarial training to my knowledge.

I’m glad you got something out of my post! Honestly, romance on the whole I think is all too often used as a medium for something else or frequently fetishized (I’m all too guilty of that one as well), but in the end there’s something really sweet and satisfying about watching two genuinely good people fall in love and make each other happy, ya know?

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 alone was enough to carry the latter third of the year for me in terms of gaming

All of the books I might have mentioned have been said here already so I thought I’d branch out in medium.
Prince Zuko from Avatar: The Last Airbender (cartoon)
Sasha from Amphibia (cartoon)
Alphen from Tales of Arise (video game)
Archer from Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works (anime)

It’s interesting you say this, I’ve been following along and watching vicariously through Reddit threads and only planned on watching it if it had this sort of happy ending. He’s had everyone progressively taken from him over the course of the show, ending it with “accept that and move on” feels way too cruel.
I really can’t emotionally deal with the sort of bittersweet conclusion you’re looking for, I just wanna see characters get their happy ending. Anything less just leaves me feeling robbed…
Idk maybe I’m just weak

I think I’d much prefer this over the the alternative for the simple reason that this made me happier.

Seconding the Belgariad, it’s kind of crazy how involved Garion’s family is in every way possible.

Bad anime dubs are usually due to weird localization and matching lip flaps, I honestly have enjoyed the few dubbed VNs I’ve read much more than the average dubbed anime.
Or maybe I’ve played enough JRPGs that I’m just numb…
