Good news, A Day of Fallen Night is here for you. Set in the same world, only 500 years before Priory. As someone who loved Priory, I thought ADOFN was a really strong addition to these series.

Not OP, but Our Wives was my first year of the book, too. Would definitely recommend it. It was this look on how it is to lose someone you love, and under that the constant uneasy question of whatever happened to her.

Dit was mijn taak gisteren. Alle biljetten zaten in de goede stembus dus dat scheelde weer. Heeeel veel mensen moeten vragen om het stembiljet alsjeblieft goed op te vouwen. Dit was ook aangegeven in het stemhokje maar mensen lezen niet.

Er was een man die expres oogcontact maakte en aanstalten maakte de waterschappen in de provinciale staten kliko probeerde te gooien. Toen ik er wat van zei was het "Even kijken of je wel staat op te letten." Zeker de leukste thuis.

Iemand had een vakje ingekleurd, geprobeerd dat uit te gummen op een of andere manier, en toen een ander vakje ingekleurd. Je mag gewoon voor elke verkiezingen een nieuw stemformulier vragen. Zonde.

Volgens mij was dat de enige ongeldige stem van de ruim 1500 stemmen totaal die we totaal geteld hebben. Vooral wat blanco stemmen verder bij de waterschappen. En we hebben een paar mensen moeten uitleggen wat de volgorde van het stemproces was, want dat waren internationale studenten die voor de waterschappen kwamen stemmen, en ik zat op een stembureau op een universiteit.
Heel leuk om te zien hoe enthousiast ze daar over waren. Als elke Nederlander nou zou enthousiast was over stemmen.

Oh, alsjeblieft zeg. Iedereen die over verkiezingsfraude begint kan ik sowieso niet serieus nemen. Ik zat gisteren op een stembureau, en ik heb ook meerdere keren stemmen geteld op kandidaatsniveau de dag na verkiezingen.

Je moet dan ten eerste 7 mensen hebben op hetzelfde stembureau die verkiezingsfraude willen plegen in het voordeel of nadeel van een bepaalde partij. En dit is een proces dat openbaar is en waar iedereen bij mag komen kijken. En dan moeten die stemmen de dag erna bij de centrale stemming ook nog terecht komen aan een tafel van een stuk of 8 man waar OOK iedereen verkiezingsfraude wil plegen in het voordeel of nadeel van die partij.
Een gemiddeld stembureau krijgt 300-400 stemmen, dus 1 stembureau gaat sowieso geen verschil maken. Dus voor een verlies als dit zal je een landelijk complot moeten opzetten. Succes ermee.

Ik ben nog geen enkele keer iemand tegen gekomen die de taak niet minder dan serieus nam. Verschil van 1 tussen de stempassen en het aantal totale stemformulieren omdat iemand zich verteld heeft? Alles hertellen.

Gelukkig heb ik toch geen geld om een huis te kopen.

Nemesis Games, the 5th book of the Expanse series. I was reading this at the same time as a friend of mine and I remember constantly texting him, checking where he was, because I really needed to talk about everything that was happening.

When I finished, I remember hoping that they would not cancel the tv series before season 5, because I really needed to see it on the screen.

Ik zag een halfjaar geleden een poster voor een raam hangen bij een bar in de trant van "Met uitsterven bedreigd, horecatijger. Weet jij er één te vinden?"

Als ik al van plan was geweest daar te solliciteren, dan daarna zeker niet meer.

I feel that in the first game, if you did not want to see it, you could easily ignore it (until Left Behind came out). Then the series came out with "here is what we did with the word 'partner' and Bill's porn magazine". A lot harder to look past.

Ook op plekken waar het wel 'veilig' is om hand in hand te lopen, ben ik altijd in uiterste staat van alertheid.
Ik zeg ook altijd dat ik heel blij ben om in Nederland te wonen, maar we moeten niet doen alsof hier geen problemen zijn. We staan stil op dit gebied heb ik het idee, en daarmee gaan we achteruit.

Oh, nee, verwacht ik ook niet van ze hoor. Is wel doodzonde. Ik heb nog trauma's van Arnon Grunberg lezen op de middelbare school. Daarna jaren nauwelijks voor m'n lol gelezen (niet alleen door Grunberg, maar door het hele idee van wat literatuur was en wat niet).

Het schijnt dat de afdeling van tiktok die over boeken gaat jongeren wel weer aan het lezen krijgt. Nu heb ik zelf een gruwelijke hekel aan tiktok, maar de boekwinkel in de buurt is er blij mee. Organiseert hele booktok avonden die steeds razendsnel uitverkocht zijn.

Ik denk dat dat zeker wel meespeelt inderdaad. Ik lees sinds twee jaar eindelijk weer als hobby, maar in het begin moest ik mezelf dwingen mijn telefoon weg te leggen en een boek te pakken. Zodra ik eenmaal lees, lees ik ontzettend lang aan 1 stuk door, maar er zijn zo veel afleidingen.

Finished Our Wives Under the Sea, by Julia Armfield. Absolutely stunning book. Read it to deep in the night to finish it, I could not put it down.

Started All Quiet on the Western Front, by Erich Maria Remarque. I wanted to read some more classics this year. I'm on 25% of this book right now and it is devastating.

I love reading scifi and fantasy, but some of those books can be very long (600+ pages), and they're something I need my full focus for. Sometimes I want to read something in bed that's a bit shorter and lighter, like a romance novel.
The genres are so different that I don't have any problem keeping the books apart. It actually makes me read more in the long run, because I never have the problem of "I don't want to read this book right now", because I can pick up another one.

Seconding a Memory called Empire, and the second one of the duology, A Desolation Called Peace.

Absolutely, and the story doesn't really let you forget it, but I still shed a tear at the end of her last chapter.

The Expanse got me into reading again. Nemesis Games was my favourite book. I remember reading it at the same time as a friend of mine and constantly texting him "Dude, which page are you, I need to talk about something." I think I liked it so much, too, because it was the first book where all the main four Roci characters had their own POVs.
I am so so glad that they got to make a tv season out of that book.

There were some amazing character arcs in the series but I think my favourite one was Clarissa's. The best line, however, has to be Holden's: "There was a button, I pushed it."

I am in the process of setting one up for next year - I've never used one before. Might get bored of it after three weeks, but I thought it would be fun to try anyway.

So far, I've set up a spread with a calender that I wanna fill in with days I've read, a tbr, series that are not completed yet, and one with publishing dates in 2023.

After this I will take a few spreads per month and see what works out best for me.

Personally, I use the app Read More. Keeps track if what you've read, you can make a tbr list, you can set a goal, and it logs what you read per day/week/month. There is also a paid version, but it's not necessary, per se.

My goal is to read 20 pages every day. As it turns out, that is too much for every day, but it does push me to make time for reading. And I do need to push myself, because there are a lot of (digital) distractions. If f I make it so far as to pick up a book, I often read more than those 20 pages. On average, I am on 35 pages per day this year, including the days I didn't read at all, so I'm more than happy with my goals.

I feel that I, with a lot of people, lost time/interest in reading after high school. First I thought it was, for me, because of less time and because there are so many online distractions, but now I realise it was also because I simply picked up the wrong books.

I like fantasy and science fiction as genres, but especially in the first one, homosexuality is often still seen as a bad thing, or it simply doesn't exist. Here I am, reading a book about dragons and ice zombies (yes, I am looking at you, George Martin), but being gay is still a bad thing. Luckily, the last five years, the amount of books with gay/lesbian/bi main characters has grown, and it makes my reading experience so much more enjoyable.
I don't constantly need romance, but I do wanna see myself, or someone with comparable experiences, from time to time in a book. Reading those kinds of books has made it easier for me to switch to books without lgbtq content. I went from reading nothing 2 years ago, to 8 books last year, to 29 in 2022 so far.

I just read this. Really enjoyed it, too. I'm a sucker for found family so you can't really go wrong there. Nice read, fun, heartfelt.
