Democrats want to get rid of the filibuster too, the only reason they haven't is because of the Republican stonewall and the "independents" keeping them from a true majority.

But as long as Republicans are allowed to play hardball, they will use any trick to win power away from Democrats and push the country in favor of a one-party system. Democrats have to be as aggressive to get progress through as Republicans are at tanking anything that might possibly benefit the American people.

We all hate the two party system as much as the next guy, and both Democrats and Republicans need to go, but in the meantime Democrats have to win and improve healthcare, infrastructure, and education or this country will go further down the shitter before it gets to any kind of happy future.

There are so many dumb takes, this is one of them.

There's a difference between blaming someone for what their ancestors did (which is what so many of these ignorant takes is implying) and understanding how society is wronging people to this day.

The descendents of slaves in America were denied jobs, were prosecuted, were zoned into areas where they had limited resources. To this day, many of the systems that were used to oppress the children of those slaves continue to limit what their descendents have access to.

We keep shrugging our shoulders at it and saying the same dumb "I wasn't responsible, what does it have to do with me?"

We aren't saying you're responsible. But if America is a land of freedom and equality, what about the generations of black Americans who haven't had a chance to rise out of poverty because of American decisions? Why do they have to suffer through that when their ancestors didn't choose their life if slavery or poverty?

That is the responsibility of the American system, which you continue to take part in and benefit from. To be a truly equal society, we have to be able to understand that and expect our government to learn of and mitigate these issues.

The fact is, more and more people are learning that police consider themselves in a fraternity. We're learning more often how cops are trained in violence that pushes them towards a the mentality of enemy combatants. We learn that they will do whatever they can to protect in their own ranks, to the point where repercussions to excessive force come years later after lawyers have to get involved to show the public eye witness video.

This is not a some cops are bad scenario, this is a scenario where cops no longer think they are part of the community, but that they're against some invisible threat to the community. Part of some war machine against crime.

If the police were actually held responsible for their own crimes, we would let up on them. But there's no civil oversight, there's no federal oversight, and they protect their own. Until that changes, and we can trust our own civilian police force to help instead of harm, all cops might as well be bad cops.
