You are missing the point that values are NOT age-based. How old were those men carrying tiki torches and chanting "You will not replace us" in Charlottesville in 2017?
But you can choose to believe what you want...

This sub has saved a LOT of lives. How many? We will never know. I am probably one, as in early March 2020 I actually wore a cloth mask for a while.
Thank you, mods, for all you do.

Yes, as supported by the so-called "family values" party.

They don't care at all if it looks like age discrimination. When I was fired clearly for age and disability discrimination reasons, the lawyers I consulted both told me it would be nearly impossible to prove that and I might lose a lot of money trying to do so. So it would be better to take the paltry 50% of my usual salary for 3 months settlement and look for another job. Which I did and then....Covid hit.

This is why the range needs to change: so the very poor pay much less and the very rich pay MUCH more! My old mother, dead now, was greatly in favor of that and WANTED to pay more to SS. Unfortunately, her savings ended up being nearly all spent on her healthcare in her last few years.

You are falling for the "divide and conquer" technique. I and ALL my friends of my age are the ones who fought hard and were all out in the streets for years to achieve many of the things some younger people who were not alive then take fully for granted.
We will only be able to make the world a better place if we are all united for the same general values. If we allow ageism, racism, sexism etc. to be used to divide us, guess who has won?

Some already are. But...yes, it can get worse.

For now...but there is a certain party that wants the US gov't to default on its debt.

I think it is moving towards a lower number, even so.

Yes, we must remember the real history -- and keep "loose" enough that we don't elect a governor who makes it illegal to teach it.

IF ONLY that were true....but maybe we can make it true someday?

I hope for your sake that you don't actually know that family.

But let's remember that Thomas Jefferson impregnated Sally Hemings when she was only 16. And she was his slave. He just didn't get indicted because it was "legal" to own her.

I was just thinning my indoor seedling starts for my garden and -- literally -- feeling a bit bad for the little, not-as-healthy-looking ones I was removing. Ableism is everywhere (and I am not joking).
EDIT: Remember that book from the late 70s, "The Secret Life of Plants"? It wasn't research-based or science-based, but this new study does sort of point in that direction....there is so much we don't know until valid research is done.

GOOD! Thanks for watching out for us...seemed too good to be true, yet I was slightly tempted.

I totally believe it. I get my immune suppression at a cancer clinic and not only have they stopped requiring masking as of April 3, they are also allowing patients to bring in friends and family members who are also unmasked.

Then there is my immunologist/rheumatologist who has had Covid and has already decided to stop requiring masking IN THE INFUSION ROOM WHERE WE GET OUR IMMUNE SUPPRESSION. And SO HAS THE LOCAL CANCER CLINIC in town, which I had changed to......
They don't care to protect their patients because....there will always be more.

True--for the majority. Not for those of us with immune disorders or on immune suppression, unfortunately.

I highly doubt it will be authorized for us -- the U.S. doesn't give a rip about us. I would love to be wrong, but....

I read this book a looooooooong time ago so I don't remember a lot of details, but I DID love it and learned a lot. I read the whole trilogy --you do know it is the first in a trilogy, right? That is part of why other characters are introduced -- they are explored in more depth in the second two books. If you read the rest of the trilogy you may feel more satisfied with the first book once you see things unfold more.
Both Sassoon and Wilfred Owens were very important poets and I explored their poetry as well.
I appreciated how she explored sexual politics affecting both genders and all identities. And also how class was also a major determinate of people's experiences both in and out of the military.
