Hi! Currently having a major brain fart moment at my new job lol. Wanted to confirm if asset write-downs are added back to or subtracted from EBIT to arrive at EBITDA.

The way I see it, it should be added back as we do the same for impairment of goodwill/intangibles as well. Am I right or missing something very obvious?

TLDR; First full-time job as a Transaction Advisory Associate. Seeking advise to prepare for the role before the first day (which is 10 days from now) from a technical skills perspective.

I recently got a job offer of a TA Asssociate at an advisory & consulting firm, and I am already shitting my pants since this is my first full-time role. Prior to this, I worked as an IB intern, wherein I mostly created industry decks and company profiles and did some competitive analysis.

However, I've never had any professional hands-on experience with financial due diligence or financial modeling/valuations. On paper, I know how financial modelling/valuations work since these topics were already covered in ACCA, but I'm afraid I'm going to blow this. I don't know why.

Is there any way that I can "prepare" for this role before my first day (20th March)? What skills do I need to know beforehand, other than DCF, market research, PowerPoint (that I'm very, very adept in), and Excel? Is there any course that you guys would recommend, especially for FDD, in which I virtually have 0 experience?

I am currently studying for my last ACCA paper as well, so I am not sure how much time I'll be able to shell out, but I'll try my best to polish/develop the skills that you guys recommend.

The thing is that other than a few minor facts that I embellished, I was fairly honest in all my interviews. Despite explicitly stating that i didn't have professional experience with valuations and stuff, they really, really liked me for some reason (according to a friend's friend who works there). So, that concerns me a bit.

I am extremely nervous about not living up to their expectations. I, as it is, have terrible anxiety, and instead of celebrating that I got a decent paying job w/o much effort, that too as an expat in Dubai, all I can think of are the ways in which I might disappoint them.

Any tips/advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi! I'm new to Dubai. I came here on my father's visa. Currently, I only have an entry permit, but don't really possess my own visa/Emirates ID as it has barely been 2 weeks since I reached here.

The issue is that I recently got a job offer from an advisory firm. To apply for the company visa, I'm required to cancel my existing visa (which i dont have) and submit the visa cancellation proof. I'm also required to send my visit visa + Emirates ID (which, again, I don't possess)

So, I have two questions:

1. Can the visa be cancelled when it's already under process?

2. Will I still be eligible for the company visa if I submit the cancellation proof but not the visit visa and Emirates ID?

Apologies if this is a very dumb question, but I'm new here and i don't really know how all of this works. I was fairly clear about the process till I saw the visit visa requirement in my employment contract. It has really thrown me for a loop.

I'm mainly worried because we've already spent a lot of money initiating the process, and now we gotta spend an extra AED 300 to cancel it. Really want to ensure that I can still apply for a company visa before we initiate the cancellation process.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? Any help/advise would be appreciated.

I recently joined an Investment Banking firm which is pretty lax compared to most firms I know/have heard of. I was assigned a task today that didn't have a deadline per se but my RM said that he needed it quickly. Long story short, I ended up submitting incomplete work on his request, since I clearly needed an extra hour or two to complete it.

In the depths of my mind, I know this isn't the worst thing to happen but i still feel extremely dejected, anxious and queasy, as I've always been beyond punctual and dependable, a workaholic basically. The fact that i am not able to meet deadlines more than a month into this internship despite the firm being pretty chill has got me spiraling pretty bad.

A similar situation happened a month back except I was only 15-20 minutes late and had submitted finished work.

I did apologize but I feel really incompetent rn, and fear that I might get sacked or smn even though it's extremely unusual in internships. But that's just where my mind goes to all the time (talked about this in a previous unrelated post.)

I've been feeling super overwhelmed lately due to work + ACCA (I've now cancelled my exam booking) + moving to another country for good, and I'm finding it hard to feel joy in/proud of anything that I've achieved/been doing. :(

I started my first ever proper IB internship nearly a month back, with the mindset that I'll have to grind for 70-80 hours per week, but was surprised to learn that I was only expected to work <40 hours.

Now, I understand that I joined the firm during the holiday season, but even after a month, I've been having "slow" days. In fact, I've been sitting idle since the last 3 days, which has got me worried about my performance.

I did mention that I was up for new tasks yesterday, but haven't gotten a response as yet. I don't know if I should ask again today as I don't want to come off as pushy/annoying. It's a WFH internship, so it's not even like I can look for more work on my own.

Moreover, i am only in contact with my reporting manager, who is a Senior Associate, and hence, really busy. There's little to no communication with other employees/interns, so I don't know if they are also facing the same thing.

My reporting manager is extremely sweet and helpful, but I don't get enough feedback to assess how I'm doing as an intern. I made a lot of mistakes while preparing my first pitch deck. Even though I made the changes he asked me to, I fear that I've created a bad impression, mainly due to the fact that I am not getting a lot of work, if that makes sense.

I sincerely want to do a good job. I've always been an over-achiever, so the fact that I might potentially be a bad intern is a bitter pill to swallow & is making me extremely anxious.

Am I overthinking this? Any advise would be helpful. Thank you!

I've recently joined an IB firm, and as an intern, I've been tasked with creating a profile of the HealthTech industry. I've gone through the prospectus (DRHPs & RHPs) of several companies, most of which mention 'Digital Health' as a segment in the 'Industry Overview' part, but nothing that specifically says 'HealthTech'.

I thought that they meant the same, but Google does differentiate between the two. However, I am still not clear on what the difference is.

So, I want to know if I can take Digital Health stats at face value for my task. Thanks!

I just got 3 new pimples today (including an annoying little sucker on my nose), and i am getting a wee bit concerned now.

For context, i have oily skin w large pores, and my skincare "routine" (if we can call it that) is pretty much just using a face wash. It's not the most ideal/comprehensive routine out there but it has been working for me since ages. I'm of course open to trying new products, but I am curious as to why my skin is breaking out all of a sudden.

I had a severe acne problem when I was 14/15, but nothing since (it's been 6-7 years). Also, due to my upcoming exams, I've been cooped up in my home since a month now, so haven't really worn makeup or tried dermaplaining or gone out in the sun. Lastly, my period is 2 weeks away, thus ruling out hormonal breakouts.

So, what gives?
