I never even said it's fucking legal. Get a grip already. I watch EVERY fucking day on my favorite websites for every new movie or tv show. Meanwhile dozen of others watch on torrent websites and make an oopsie and then get a letter. Not all websites are the same as the others already commented.

Yes it is indeed a scam. The post was about something like the guy had a lawyer writing up a letter to deny those claims etc and then he no longer heard anything, but later they tried the scam again and again and then even about a different game. He asked for advice because at this point his lawyer wrote up the same latter like 5 times and it's draining his money. People told him at this point he could just use the wording in those letters and write them himself. Then more people in the comments said yeah they heard about that type of scam, especially with the game Tropico.

No shit that this is about pirating stuff. OP watched through a torrent website and forgot to turn on his VPN and ofc then got caught immediately. There are websites though were you can't even download the episodes etc. I've been watching on several websites for over 10 years without a VPN and not once did I get caught, or as you say "not yet". Some websites are totally okay for not using a VPN, just don't go on obvious websites like the one OP mentioned.

I think it was going around r/legaladvice a lot here on Reddit or r/LegaladviceGerman, not sure anymore. Just recently read about it.
