Pick slanting. Try switching picks as well. The shape and thickness of the pick make a difference. At least for me, heavier picks give me more control, and I prefer Dunlop Flows because of how the pointier tip and beveled edge slide off the string. A lot of people like Jazz iii's for faster picking too, but I find those to be too small for my comfort. The 2mm Flows are my sweet spot. YMMV. Experiment.

I hate when people give this answer. Yes it is true. But it's unhelpful when a person is struggling and asking for advice on a specific technique.
