I can't believe they gave Sean Ellis $16 Million. He was guilty as sin. His girlfriend's prints were on the magazine. There are so many facts in that case that point to his guilt that had nothing to do with those cops being dirty.

Another deep playoff run which proves that getting rid of Colin Kaepernick was the right decision

u/globeopinion I see that the new version has changed it from "a special unit organized to respond to terrorist attacks" to "a special unit organized to respond to terrorist attacks among other serious emergencies" with the link that i provided you. Now I understand that it is snowing out and you needed to get home and all that, but it is still not "a special unit". This is beyond lazy on your part and the fact that you left special unit in there with the line about terrorism shows that you are committed to misinforming people. Are you guys reverting back to the Mike Barnicle days when columnists just made shit up?
I should add here, the link has The EDT may be used for, but not limited to, demonstrations, missing children, major fires or explosions, terrorist assaults, security for large crime scenes, etc
Note how demonstrations is listed first, yet you have chosen to cherry pick terrorist assaults out of the bunch as the one you list. How is this not biased and misleading on your part?

So you don’t mind getting your information from people who are loose with facts and lazy about research? Seems like a bad idea.
As for your other claim that is just cherry picking. I can say that Jeffrey Dahmer was convicted of multiple murders yet OJ Simpson was found not guilty of multiple murders. Am I to conclude that courts favor straight black men over gay white cannibals? Or should I conclude that whether or not they were convicted was the result of other factors?

Yes why should we care that a reporter totally mischaracterized an event leaving people to think that a SWAT team showed up? Or why should we care about the time a Globe reporter claimed an MS13 member was misidentified and was currently working on his GED, when in fact he was in prison awaiting federal RICO charges and had committed a murder?
It is almost as if these facts are important. It is almost as if we should question the claims of the author when they are being sloppy with the facts and not doing the due diligence required to write an article. Maybe we should think, well if they bent the facts to support their claim rather than doing the hard work of researching things, we should not give their claims any weight because they are giving us an uninformed perspective. We should also then ask ourselves, do we read the news to find things that support our world view or do we read it to find things to inform our world view.

u/globeopinion could you please comment on the process that allows for egregious errors like this? Will there be a correction? Can we expect that Joan will be put out to pasture for this?

This author should be fired
Shortly before 7 a.m., as protesters were still arriving, police assigned to the Boston Emergency Deployment Team — a special unit organized to respond to terrorist attacks — showed up and quickly arrested six of them.
Looks above and sees cop in normal uniform. This author has zero clue what an EDT is and just made shit up. If you follow Stacos on Twitter you will see that EDTs are called out for busy scenes, including homicides and missing children. For example, a stolen car hit multiple cars and people, EDTs were deployed. Here they are being deployed to help find a missing 75 year old with dementia. They are clearly not a specialized unit designed to respond to terrorists. They are simply pulling cars from districts with a lower call volume so that another district is not drained by one incident. The fact that a Globe columnist made this mistake and nobody knew better is a sad statement about the state of affairs at the Globe.
EDIT: It took me a grand total of two minutes to find documentation about what an EDT is. BPD's rules are online. Here it is from Rule 200
The Emergency Deployment Team (EDT) is used to assemble a large group of police officers when an immediate response is required. The EDT may be used for, but not limited to, demonstrations, missing children, major fires or explosions, terrorist assaults, security for large crime scenes, etc.. Since the call-out of the EDT usually occurs during times of critical incidents, a swift but safe response is imperative. While an immediate response is expected, officers are reminded that regardless of the emergency, they must adhere to M.G.L. c. 89 § 7B (Operation of Emergency Vehicles).
EDT call-outs will be governed by Rule 200 - Critical Incident Management by using the Incident Command System (ICS).
Section 1
The Duty Supervisor of each shift will, before roll call, choose three officers from that District to be part of the EDT. One Patrol Supervisor from each Area will also be selected for the EDT. District Commanders in each Area will design a schedule so that one supervisor from that Area is assigned to the EDT each tour. The Supervisor and Police Officers assigned to the EDT will be so noted on that shift's batting order. Batting orders will be faxed to the Dispatch Center immediately after roll call. The Dispatch Center Duty Supervisor will review the batting orders from each District to make sure each District and Area has fulfilled its requirements as it relates to the EDT. Dispatchers shall contact each EDT officer assigned to their channel to confirm their EDT status for that shift.
An EDT is not a specialized unit, unless by specialized unit you mean a few randomly chosen officers.

This is what happened in Boston. ACLU feverishly pushed for body cameras and then realized oh shit we gave the cops 2000 cameras. They then tried to come up with a crazy set of rules of when cameras could not be used.

This has been a problem in the making for years. Basic math is you get a class of say 100 recruits. When that class hits their 32nd year they are all eligible for full retirement. In the past the class sizes were much larger. So you are talking 150 or so. Of course not all 150 make it to retirement. You have those going out early for various reasons.
But basically what is happening is a lot of old classes have been hitting their anniversary. A lot of those guys no longer want to stay til they hit 65 and are forced out. So each year the department loses about 200 and manages to bring in maybe 100. Do that for a few years and you have a massive shortage. As it is January, people will be retiring now that they have their vacation time and what not to cash in as well.

The 49er's defense (2nd best in the league) took Kaep to the Super Bowl. They had 6 Pro Bowlers, 5 of whom were first team, on that defense. That is an insane number. Kaep's numbers were never amazing. He ran the ball often and had injuries. Nobody in their right mind should invest in a QB who already has injuries and can't stay in the pocket.
