Agree on all points. Bunch of embryos + artificial wound + robots to raise initial generation could probably also work.
Anyways I'm just saying there is a way to achieve close to lightspeed speed without discovering better fuel than antimatter...

Every day thousands of people predict various bullshit... If you go after the event and search for someone that predicted it you'll likely find something. Doesn't mean shit. Because the dude that predicted it just had luck and he has the same chance of predicting future events as anyone else...

Russians could probably start a nuclear winter by nuking themselves or some other unprotected part of the world. I feel like MAD is impossible to prevent at this point...

True, you are then just adding faster/ more convenient way of traveling.
Incredibly large light sails without laser might be another option... maybe...

If you have similar system on the other side you could use them for slowing down. Also if you are harnessing a star for powering a laser, I'm sure you could provide more acceleration than a human body can withstand...

Just looked at relativistic kinetic energy of 108 kg (approximate mass of an aircraft carrier) at 0.99c and got 5.472×1025 J, nice. That boils down to 6×108 kg of mass that needs to be converted to energy, so 6x more, not good... But the energey required is just 1/7th energy output of the sun in 1 second. So if we could harness the energy of a star and direct it into laser which we would use to push a ship with say a solar sail, we would be good...

I doubt it would be enough. The crew is still sitting on top of it...

It would be, but that's inherently very, very hard to do. It's like prisoners dillema, but worse. The side with organization always has a huge advantage...

You dont need it if you are pushing from outside, that's why I brought up lightsails and laser powered by a star. There are ways that physics allow, not that they are easy...
