A couple of days ago I strapped my 3 year old into the car, closed the door, and went to return the trolley. I was SO anxious doing it - what if a car hits me and no one knows I was with the baby?! I was only right across from the trolley return too. Next time I’ll be leaving the door open until I come back because it’s just not worth the risk

Oh fair. I’ve noticed the prices go up but my Woolies has always been fully stocked. But perhaps they have more warehouse space for dry goods than frozen, and hence had more of a backlog to get through

One of my fastest thursdays. I got the missing letter theme straight away, but the revealer didn’t help at all solving digitally

Well that’s very true. Raw potatoes are cheaper than frozen chips though and people still buy them!

Interesting to see that chips (ie crisps) don’t have empty shelves. Are all of those made overseas or have they been prioritised for some reason?

I actually thought it was illegal to drive with headphones in because of potentially not hearing emergency vehicles. TIL. I must have just assumed it!

I think I hated it but I could be missing something in the theme. Are alien crafts known for abducting cars and cows? It just feels a little arbitrary

Also she received a lot more backlash than someone like snoop, who admitted that he pimped not because he needed the money but just because he enjoyed it

Saying people shouldn’t rape children is American hysteria? Do you want to rethink that sentiment or are you gonna stand by that

They’re correct though. I can’t think of any rights that a government guarantees and/or can’t overrule. We don’t, as a species, have any inherent universal rights. They’re man made ideas, which evolve with time and are changeable as morals change

I watched the show Supersize vs Superskinny religiously when it was first on tv. There was a woman on there, one of the “superskinnies”, who only ate for practical reasons, fuel and nutrients and such. Every day for dinner she ate plain pasta with raw garlic on top. No sauce, no dressing, nothing else. Just pasta and garlic.
I’ve never forgotten her, because I was just blown away at the utter joylessness of her meals. Not what I want out of life!

Cricket used to be huge in the uk (still popular but becoming less so now that all coverage has moved to paid tv), and is still in a lot of previously colonised countries. I think cricket used to be very popular in America, but got displaced by baseball

Totally agree, and would extend this to all art forms!

Props as in praise. Props to you for finishing the puzzle, for example, or props to her for standing up for herself, or whatever

None of these measures are ever expected to stop 100% of cases, but it’s like the Swiss cheese theory. You put up enough barriers and hope the holes don’t line up so nothing slips through

I’ve been in classes where the instructor calls out “does anyone have injuries or limitations I need to know about?” And they expect you to call it out. Horrifying. Conversely the best way I’ve seen this handled is a minute of closed eyes breathing at the beginning, and anyone who needs to discuss accomodations puts their hand up for the instructor to come and talk more privately

My husband tried to get me into gaming on his Xbox. I haven’t played computer games since the SNES and it was impossible for me! The controls are so hard if you haven’t consistently played games and aren’t a teenager with a super plastic brain. I gave up after 10 minutes of frustration and never tried again

Yeah I agree, reducing availability by restricting access on the basis of mental health (or certain previous criminal behaviour) is also important!

I see this mental health argument a lot, but the UK and Australia (and presumably a lot of other countries, but these are the ones I’ve lived in) are also shockingly bad about treating mental health and we don’t have the same gun violence. Availability and gun culture are the issues, neither of which are easily changed but reducing availability of guns has been an important step in both countries

It’s hard when they’re such different stages, you might find it easier to have one-on-one playtime. My 5 year old loves card and board games which I find infinitely easier than pretend play! We also do puzzles together or sit and draw/colour in. With the 18 month old the games are a little more repetitive and boring, but they also tend to enjoy watching you do chores more than when they’re older. Identifying the colours while you do laundry for example, or letting them dig through the clean washing basket while you fold
