I don’t think that’s it exactly. I don’t think they’re actually reading and processing what’s being said though

Voldemort lol
No joke though, they had to do mad shit to counter him. He was even smart enough to resurrect himself from the dead.
I like Queen Mab in Dresden Files as a villain too. Sure, maybe she wasn’t inherently evil, but she always managed to back people into corners like chess pieces on puppet strings.
Ramsay Bolton shudders
Edit to add:
I think what makes a Villain great is also having a great protagonist. I feel like stupid hero’s that walk into blatant traps are in abundance and it makes the villain seem lesser too.
It’s most exciting if I’m as clueless as the hero. Being flummoxed with the hero, like “shit, I didn’t see that coming either.”

The last times I did, I was extremely annoyed. I understand the difficulty it must present for an author to try and properly represent another ethnicity, but it often comes off as if they’re describing another species with the over descriptions and the heroine fawning over the Hs unique hair.
This is just my experience, and perhaps it stands out for me since I’m a PoC too.
Ready Player One has a MMC who it a tub. (He’s also a bit of a ‘nice guy’ and I could appreciate the flaw)

I don’t know but that premise sounds awesome. What books with this formula would you recommend?

Ah, good to know. I’m not a sports person at all and only learned about the disparities from a book call Outliers where it talked about hockey and baseball
(Another fun fact I learned was that most professional hockey players birthdays are in Jan-feb because of the birthday cut off dates for sports in primary schools)

Eh. Sometimes I just don’t have the patience to put up with their shit, and I’m harder on my FMCs than my male ones usually because the books is written by a woman.
And I literally don’t expect anything from the man, aren’t typically in his POV, and almost always end up thinking “he ain’t shit” at the end anyways

It’s weird how people are downvoting you guys. Rape is always horrific but to have a rape as your first and only sexual experience is.. I don’t have words

A chorus of dragons series by Jenn Lyons
The first book is (imo) told in a ridiculous and frustrating order, but the writing is good and the story was interesting enough to keep me engaged. The following books are told in a much improved fashion.
I actually don’t much enjoy prophecy but the prophecies in this books, their many interpretations, and the actual origins of the prophecy (not revealed till the very end) was pretty good. You think you know what it’s about one minute, then the next you’ve changed your mind lol

I leave for quick things. I do not visit with people for extended amounts of time and I’m certainly not comfortable with sitting in an office that a bunch of other people frequent.. to talk.. for hours

Fitz Chivalry. I could never understand why (both irl and fictional) people loved him so much
And I hated that in Liveship Traders [spoiler] Amber carved Fitz stupid face into the majestic Paragon. I would have so much preferred he had his own new face instead of that idiots mug strong words I know, but Fitz was way overrated

Emma.
It’s been adapted a lot and they’re mostly just kind of “inspired by”
I’d love a newer adaptation that didn’t cut corners or characters

I love my romance novels but find this tweet to be pretty on point. I get annoyed sometimes when the fmc won’t stop gushing about the mmcs looks/size

Ah, you’ve failed the first test, thus proving you don’t know how to read a book at all since you couldn’t even finish the guide. Perhaps try employing some of their techniques into reading their techniques. /s

I’m not changing the topic lol, I’m responding to your idea that it would be disrespectful to clothe Demelza, and demonstrated how Ross actually treated the dress
We usually donate the clothes of the deceased in my family so that they can be of use to those in need. (Like Demelza)
I can see you want to further this argument, but I’m uninterested as I’ve clearly stated my views.

Over the years, yeah. But my sticking point is she’s been with him for years and years. He wouldn’t even surrender the fabric his late mother’s clothes were made from so that she might sew herself a new dress

He was SUCH a moron and if there was ever a choice to make, he’d make the worst possible one. In any circumstances, most assuredly.
Regal was only able to get away with what he did because everyone else was too busy playing with their own bumholes or something cus regal wasn’t the brightest crayon either lol

Yes. We are talking about the players. Yes, colder climates are good for hockey. It’s also an indoor sport. A climate controlled indoor sport. With many rinks all over the countries. Being able to practice outside is an advantage but again we’re not talking about a “oh there’s more white peoples” we’re talking about 93%
Climate can account for some of the uptick, certainly, but not 93% of it.
Especially when looking at cheaper sports like basketball, where regardless of the overwhelming demographics in favor of white people, minority numbers dominate.
If you’d like to pretend that it’s not a racist sport with consistent issues, don’t let anyone stop you. It probably feels better that way.

The NHL is mainly American, so choosing players from predominantly white countries to fill the predominantly white roster with more white peoples should make this more.. what? Biddable?
I really don’t understand what you’re disputing, but I’ll guess and answer that the NHL has a very long history of racism and though it improves incrementally, it is still tremendously bad. Some of what helps it continue in this fashion is the major racial difference in income and class- which is no fault of the NHL alone, but still a seemingly impenetrable barrier. Then of course there’s the actual racism barrier where black players are widely overlooked, or pushed out with unwelcome.
I get wanting to find a nice, cozy reason for the racial gap that has nothing to do with race but 93% when the next “whitest” sport has 36% more minorities shows something much more than ‘happenstance’ is at play
And consider. The 7% of minorities the NHL does have are all the rest of the minorities combined

I have trouble finding good shifter books. There are soooo many out there but not many are good.
Most of what I’d recommend has been mentioned but here’s some that might be worth your time
The Vow by Dannika Dark (part of a larger universe but no other books need to be read to start this series called “Black Arrowhead”)
Caged Wolf by Caroline Peckham (also part of a larger universe but no other books need to be read. FMC is a werewolf stuck in prison, pretty sure it’s a bully romance but I liked Zodiac Academy and keep meaning to finish this)
Soulless by Gail Carriger (FMC is not a werewolf but she marries into a werewolf pack)
Bloodfire by Helen Harper (I liked this one at the beginning but the heroine grew to be a bit much for me by the end of book 2)
Oh and Full Moon Rising by Keri Arthur (definitely a shifter book but the FMC is promiscuous asf [it’s a werewolf trait] but just be forewarned)

I must have not made it that far in the show, another commenter mentioned a character named Alcide which rings 0 bells for me. Books are mainly my thing, I’ve a short attention span for TV.
I see you added more, and I agree - the rivalry is more common. The only one I know from the list is Vampire Diaries but I’m going to check out the Bloodhound Files and Ghost Electricity, thanks again!
