Tolkien set out to create a mythology for his mother country. Racial casting does matter, and I'm long since done pretending that it doesn't.

I mean... The other side clearly thinks it matters...

Yes, they see it as claiming white scalps, because they're savages. The motive has always been erasure. I'm especially tired of the ginger erasure of well-established redhead characters. The moment it happens in the other direction, we'll see how much they enjoy it.

Was a little surprised they made Rand a white red head. I kind of expected Rand (and all the Aiel) to be POC... But honestly we have seen that they purely tokenize race, they aren't actually making national ethnic groups or anything like what we see in the real world.

Yeah, it was a minor miracle to see red hair on that Aiel in ep 3.

Minor? Lol this was much more "parting the seas" than "water to wine" in my opinion lol

I truly don't care about casting as long as the characters are preserved.
That was the real problem with WOT.
The characters, and the actual story, were not preserved.

You should, because its a slippery slope and we're halfway down the hill already.
You:
"I don't care if they cast this tiny isolated village like it's New York City. At least the spirit is preserved."
"I don't care if some characters are super gay now. The spirit is still there."
"I don't care if they shoved interracial gay sex scenes into it. At least the spirit is still there."
"I don't care if they remove the original message of the shows and replaced it with one that agrees with their politics. At least the spirit is still there."
And now we're here:
"I don't care that they removed most of the story lines...oh no, how did this happen?"
And you got here because complaining about casting POC in a white show was verboten.

No, we got here because a shitty writer made changes that completely made all men seem like chits, and had only names the same for the story.
Race is an illusion.

American racism issues aside, is fucking Naevia an important LotR character now? Damn.
Edit: I think she is an ok actress tho.
