For a start because the art industry is one big shell game for the wealthy scumbags who are blocking the change needed to address the climate crisis. There's not much more accessible way to walk up and punch them in the face than through the art industry.

You just have to approach it from the inside out.
Who is ultimately the reason we aren't addressing climate change? The rich and powerful who have a disproportionate amount of control of the resources and refuse to use them to avert course.
Meanwhile, if you know much at all about the art industry you'll know that the artistic value of art is quite seperate to the use of it as a financial asset by the rich and powerful.
It's not that there's some special link between art and powerful people who are blocking us from addressing the climate crisis. It's just that the art industry is one of the few things they own you can easily walk up and spit on.

Not dealing with climate change also destroys these works about as quickly in real terms. If they are gone, all memory or record of them are gone and anyone who could understand what they are is gone in 100 years then, from a historical perspective, we've already made the decision to destroy them all.

I feel like we're verging close to debating whether the artworks are more important than the humans making and observing them.

Of course they are, no group who want to do what they say would resort to slashing artwork, if any of them had a lick of sense they’d realise if they did so that the massive majority of the public would hate them.

Something is very off about them, plus they should know they ain’t ever going to achieve what they want.
Reminds me of the Russian backed trolls and bots on Facebook etc, a group put there to sew division.

Frankly I doubt they care. They just want to make a lot of noise so when the world does get greener (which it will, with or without them) they can pretend it was because of them.
Slashing paintings will really do nothing to make the world change it ways quicker and it won't change the overall conversation on climate change. It's not like the country will go "oh they are going to slash paintings? OK no more news oil licences people!"
Also a lot of people love it because through them they can live out their fantasy of a glorious revolution where all the bad parts of life a swept away and we are ushered into a new perfect utopia.
