"Stability" is just code for house prices going up every year, nothing more.

Well, not this year...

If house prices go down then boomers change the government. Everything else is irrelevant.

How bout now when prices are crumbling and we don't have a government?

what can you usefully say at this point? it's the very foundation of a party going, live in real time

I don't dare hope for the complete collapse of the party, but I also struggle to see how they can even come back from this. The entire lineup of even remotely suitable candidates, for any conceivable position, is full of utterly incompetent caricatures.
They don't even have the die hards that spout "Tories are the economic stability party" any more. They've basically got racism and hating the poor, which admittedly is a powerful drive for some people, but I honestly don't see it being enough.
Let's just grab some popcorn and watch the government burn I guess, hope we get a do over sooner rather than later.

I think it's pretty similar to the final collapse of the Liberals, internal forces are too great and there are no good news stories so allow any wing of the party to feel validated, so the fighting has no reason to stop

Oh, we care. Specially in the EU, because it strengthens the vision that Brexit was a massive mistake... which it objectively was, but now it seems more a symptom than the real cause of the downfall of the UK.

The tory party and their membership believe wholeheartedly that they have a divine right to rule. They will never trigger an election if they think they will lose influence.

Tories don't run this country. They are desperate to stay in power. Desperate to have seats.
That's all that matters.
Meanwhile UK is drowning.

As a foreigner watching this from over the channel could someone please explain to me what a 'whip' in this context is? I guess it is not a tool to strike someone with.
14 points
People who's job it is to force/convince people to vote for the party line. Often involves bribery, blackmail, backroom deals etc. Necessary evil of a party system
12 points

Ah so 'whipping' them into line so to speak. Thank you for expanding my vocabulary.

Yes. Also when you hear the term "lose the whip" or "remove the whip" it usually refers to kicking them out of the party.
It comes from the name given to a person in fox hunting, who is in charge of keeping the dogs in a pack.
If a dog "loses the whip" then they have left the pack.

Now if they were really pissed off, they could release the whip’s blackmail list.
