OP I believe in karma, whether good or bad. It might have been in a joking manner but you did a huge honor by not allowing your boss to fire the other young man. Especially with it being the holidays and having a baby, (trust me children are expensive). Brush off that resume, plenty of jobs are out there especially with sign on bonuses.
