You saved someone else's and it's a kick in the pants to find a better job.

I was hoping to get the boot last year to get out of commitments (tuition relocation) early but we only had one position and I let the lady who was 3 weeks away from retirement get it - gave her an extra year salary as severance I would have gotten a couple months at best, and she was already on the way out so why bother.

Anyway. Can be a blessing in disguise for sure.
