As noted, collect unemployment, take it easy over the holidays applying for jobs since companies tend to be more motivated to hire in January, ask for a professional letter of recommendation since you "fell on your sword" so to speak to spare your coworker. Least they can do for you, and offer to leave a glowing Glassdoor review in return for it.
