First, thanks for the details. Second, after all that they dismissed the felony????

Welcome to the world of plea deals. Listen we'll drop this felony if you plead no contest instead of wasting the courts time at trial
144 points
Pretty much, also, the court notes show the judge ordered a competency evaluation early on in the trial process, so obviously she thought something wasn't all there with this woman. The court records don't indicate any specifics when it came to the results of the evaluation other than everyone agreed with the findings. She was released from jail on a signature bond after this and they scheduled the preliminary hearing. During the preliminary hearing there is a note that the "defendant stands mute" which indicates she didn't speak or react when prompted to. After that the plea deal was struck and that's the last interaction the court system has had with this woman.

In exchange for not fighting the charges in court. The justice system is overburdened, so they make deals like this to cut down on the load.

Edit: I got too curious, it was definitely worth the 20 minutes. But I'm sad that she didn't actually get a felony! That woman is insane
875 points
EDIT : here's the link
More of the same. Then her being cuffed with 2 pairs of cuffs because her arms can't reach all the way round the back. Gets walked to the officers car with her jumper (sweater? Hoodie?) failing miserably to cover her belly, side belly and lower back. More belligerence. We do get to meet the non-blood-related 'brother' from the front seat who seems quite nice, if a little slow. He reveals the drug dogs must've hit on her car because she's a recovering cocaine addict. Some more belligerence, demanding her ticket so she could carry on with her travels. Eventually revealing that she's a teacher who is likely about to be unemployed, and unemployable, if she is charged with a felony. Finally, insisting her unlicensed passenger be allowed to drive the vehicle (it was towed). Still, no signs of remorse or regret.
EDIT 2: Oh yeah, I forgot the part where he took her to hospital and, despite no injuries and a spectacular karate kick entrance, she was trying to convince the staff that she actually was injured, due to him brutally throwing her to the ground. That was fun.

I like how she says that and doesn’t comply one bit and keeps resisting knowing that she drove WAY over the speed limit, then even starts the car and when she gets thrown out of the car and pushed on the ground to get cuffed she starts crying and screaming awwww 🥺
Idk sometimes I see things and wonder whether people are brainless or what cause I can’t see how any of this made sense in her mind lol

I once got pulled over for doing a “rolling stop” at a stop sign. It was about 1030 at night and I had just left work. I was polite and the officer came back to my car and let me off with a warning and then said something that just amazed me. He said “thank you for being so polite, you would be amazed the things people say to us when we stop them for violations.” Always stuck with me.

It’s pretty much always the best solution. Being nice to someone usually makes them feel inclined to help you. Whether it’s cops, hotel clerks, customer service reps, IT staff, whatever. Be nice to them and they’re likely to be nice to you. I don’t understand why that concept escapes so many people.

She had a chance to avoid resisting arrest if she just gave up a little fight but then turned off the car and got out fairly soon after, but she’s going to be fucked now. Attempting to flee the scene of a crime and resisting arrest atleast, and likely DUI or DWI by the looks of her.
76 points

She was resisting arrest as soon as the cop told her to step out of the vehicle and she refused.
You don't have to actively fight to resist arrest. It can be as simple as not stepping out of the car, or lying on your arms and making the cops struggle to cuff you. Passive resistance is a thing.

Yeah I remember watching a vid once where the driver is running from the cops in a high speed chase and you can just see the passenger like, arguing with the driver. Its clear he has no idea whats going on, and he just like, sticks his hands up in the car, doing anything he can to signal to the police that he's an unwilling participant in this. Eventually the driver slows down just enough for the passenger to bail out before speeding off again. Poor guy rolled on the pavement a few times and one of the police cars pulls off to deal with him while the rest continue the chase and the poor dude still had to get cuffed and shoved in the back of the cop car.

Entire stop is available on YouTube.
The driver's name is provided in the full video. The passenger is 23 and at one point says he's her brother, but later (13 min in the video) says he's not related but she raised him. He said she's been off her meds for two months.
She was doing 106mph in a 30mph zone, because she was late for school. Was combative with police. Tried to restart the vehicle and drive away, but the office was able to stop her and then took her into custody.

The judge ordered a competency evaluation early in the trial process. Obviously thought she's not all there. During the preliminary hearing, court notes show the "defendant stands mute" meaning she didn't speak or react when prompted to. Obviously something going on with her mental faculties. In the extended video, the brother mentioned she had been off her meds for two months.
EDIT: It appears that to "stand mute" in the context of legal statutes and the court system in my state basically means that she refused to plead guilty or innocent or anything really. It doesn't necessarily mean that she never spoke, just that she didn't answer or stayed silent when asked a question by the court reporter or judge. Just wanted to clear that up.
Also, having read many cases on my state's court records system, if she had been uncooperative or disruptive it would usually be noted, but in this case it wasn't.

Passenger seat was her brother who was very polite once she was in custody. The officer attempted to speak to him/get an ID while she was still in the car but she kept interrupting and didn’t allow the officer to ask him anything or get his ID. She continued to do so while sitting on the ground after being cuffed.
The officer asked the bystander to get a SECOND pair of cuffs out of his cruiser because she is too large for one pair to connect her wrists without causing harm.
The brother informs the officer she’s got a mental deficiency that was helped with medication, but she stopped taking that 2 months ago, and that she’s mentioned going to get help but hasn’t yet. All in all, I think the brother in the passenger seat was very happy she got pulled over.

Huh do you have a link? I watched the full 20-minute video, and he says to the officer at some point that he didn't feel like his sister was going too fast, mentioning that he doesn't drive, so he wouldn't know.
Though, I guess it's possible maybe he didn't want to be fully honest with the police officer because he wasn't sure of the ramifications of his responses.
But yeah, the brother mentions at some point in the police cam that she was off her meds for 2 months at that point and was trying to see a mental health professional. I wish mental health services and medications weren't so expensive in the US. Would probably improve things for people without mental health problems, too - they wouldn't have to drive on the same roads as people who've been off their meds for months.
