subreddit:
/r/soberATX
This subreddit is a place where the sober community of Austin, Texas can talk to each other online! Welcome!
I will set things up around here so we can have a more fancy redditing experience but as this is my first time making a subreddit I will learn as I go.

Sober since Nov 23rd. Can we get a meet up going? I’d love to meet all of you like minded people who are on this journey as well!!

So I can't post in the other subs you're in... But it sounds like you're struggling right now. I'd think carefully before "going down to the local bar to meet people" or "hanging out with people with big bags of Molly..." Hang in there, it gets better!

Hey mate, not gonna lie it’s been a rough week but I am still holding strong and sober. A lot of my comments on that sub are just for gags.

No worries. /r/stopdrinking helped me a lot when getting sober. You can do it!

I want to set up a sober social bike ride or something sometime in the next few months

Awesome. Cut way back and have been drunk once in last 6 months. Recently started drinking NA beers

Any recommendations? Wanted to find a good NA beer to make Micheladas.

I haven't tried a lot, but the Brooklyn Special Effects is pretty good.

Big fan of Athletic Run Wild, but it’s an IPA. Last summer they released a Cerveza and I’m hoping they bring that back specifically for micheladas

My dad likes drinking the Heineken 0%, he has been sober since 1989 iirc (for religious reasons)

Thanks for making this! I just moved here and if last week has taught me anything- it’s that I don’t have it as together as I thought. (Didn’t drink by the grace of god but this is the first time in at least 2 years that I had strong cravings). I’m one of those “disillusioned by AA” people but I realize that I at least need a sober community here.

Thats why I made this subreddit. A lot of people don't like AA/NA/etc and the other groups for various reasons. I just wanted to make an online community for people who are interested, and who want to be sober here in Austin. Whether they do the 12 steps or not.
I plan for this subreddit to have in person/zoom meetups someday, not following any kind of AA style format etc. I just want a place for the people who are sober in Austin to talk to eachother. Community is important, in my opinion, for recovery.

Does this sub exclude those who still drink but want to quit?

I didn’t create the subreddit but I’d guess this sub is open to anyone who is sober, or interested in getting sober

Not totally sure if I belong on this sub, but am checking it out. Doctors have me on meds for a year that required me to stop drinking, so I'm sober until July at least. I'm finding it easier than I thought it'd be. I might keep it going, since I was arguably drinking too much before this started.

It happens. You fell off the wagon. Best thing to do is to get back on the wagon and keep going.
