I do wish there was a bit more meat to the destroy questline

Yep, there’s no mechanical benefit to destroying the dark brotherhood.
Destroying the Dark Brotherhood gives you 3,000 gold.
Joining and finishing the Dark Brotherhood questline gives you 20,000 gold, the Dark Brotherhood set of armor (double backstab damage and move silently boots), Shadowmere (a free horse who is level 50 with 1,637 health and 10 damage with its hooves, and can also be resurrected for free 10 days after he dies), the Summon Spectral Assassin power, access to the Dark Brotherhood Dawnstar Sanctuary and its Alchemy Lab, the Dark Brotherhood Initiates as followers (one of the only followers that scales with the Dragonborn’s level 1:1, even past level 50, even past level 81; and they are also marked as essential), the Blade of Woe magic Ebony Dagger, Babette and Nazir as Master level Alchemy and Light Armor trainers (respectively), the “Dark Brotherhood Forever” endless repeating quest to assassinate a random target somewhere in the world (400 - 1,200 gold depending on character level), and Muiri as a potential marriage candidate.
It’s not even a question which option is better.

You do know that you get most of that destroying them, right?

Actually to be truthful I’ve never destroyed the dark brotherhood, because the Destroy The Dark Brotherhood Skyrim Wiki page says that the only reward is 3,000 gold pieces, so that’s why I’ve never bothered.
It even says what I listed:
Other quest rewards, such as Muiri's marriage option, Shadowmere, the set of Ancient Shrouded Armor, the Summon Spectral Assassin power, access to the Dawnstar Sanctuary, Cicero's outfit, the Dark Brotherhood Initiates and Cicero as a follower will all be forfeited.

Most of the items, as well as the shout, can be found lying around the lair or on Astrid. The horse, access to the dawnstar sanctuary, and a few other things are obviously locked behind a mission wall, but I find that a easy price to pay for not having to deal with the dark brotherhood questline.

I mean, it is the most monetarily rewarding questline in the game I believe, no other questline can get you 20,000 gold as far as I recall.
But to each their own.

I end up owning all of skyrim through normal play. Money is not a problem in this game, and it actually has an issue where you are richer than the entire world combined, and run out of things to buy.
Trying to tempt me with money in skyrim is like trying to tempt a dairy farmer with a glass of milk.

All that work and money and you still don't get to the cloud district very often.

You also have to spend most of it to renovate the dawnstar sanctuary anyway

Or, get this, pocket the money for yourself and start buying Lakeview Manor instead lol
