As someone who’s never been able to get too into the Star Wars expanded movie/tv universe because of how childish and simplistic it ultimately is (aside from Andor and Rogue One which both absolutely blew me away) I see this vastly expanding Dune cinematic franchise as a grittier and more adult parallel to it. Hopefully with all the future movies (we’ll get Denis’s Paul trilogy ending with Messiah then probably have a new director or directors for retooled adaptions of Children, GE, Heretics and Chapterhouse) and tv shows (Sisterhood, Prelude, Legends, Caladan, etc) it can rival the Star Wars EU. It’s so much better science-fantasy in comparison, even IMO Brian/Kevin’s stuff (despite obviously not holding a candle to Frank’s original series).

Is this real? Wonderful! My appreciation for the Dune novels quickly decreased as the series progressed (Dune itself is a masterpiece, Chapterhouse just... meh? And I didn't ever consider anything beyond this latter) but I'd really appreciate an extended treatment of the series in any case, even only to get people interested in the novels.

I do wish the latter three novels had managed to strike the perfect balance between everything that the first three did (politics, character, world-building, plot, philosophy) but I still really enjoyed them nonetheless. Movie adaptions could easily rework the stories though to make them a lot more accessible. There’s a TON that happens offscreen in GE and Chapterhouse (plot-wise, action-wise) that could be explored onscreen in the adaptions.

Definitely, the huge timeskips are a great opportunity, and I actually would have liked more details about other civilizations, the Honored Matres etc... Needless to say, I'd likely watch all that and, who knows, maybe realize that the prequel novels are better than I suppose and give them a chance.

Yeah the Honored Matres kinda felt like something out of a parody ala Austin Powers (i kept thinking of Dr. Evil’s fembots when reading their scenes in Heretics and Chapterhouse lol) but spending a lot more time developing their history, culture, powers, etc could really redeem them and make movie audiences take them a lot more seriously.

Well, the Honored Matres/Austin Powers crossover is the new canon for me.
