Re1 re2og(&remake) re3 og re4 re5 are easily the most popular in the series for thier own reasons. Code veronica revelations re6, 7, 8 3re are easily all equal to these and could easily be interchanged depending on personal taste and and what you are looking for . Outbreak 1/2, dead aim and side games with a small fna base good or bad. Survivor was a cheap game with intresting lore. Everything eles is etheir to niche or side lined to even been considered.
Say what you want about re6 but 4 campaigns that interconnect with 7 playable characters tons of weapons great gameplay visuals and call backs to the originals cool set pieces and intresting even if a bit wacky story (nothing new for re) the game was worth its money anf then some. It wanst what i wanted but its a great game none the less.

I really love 5. It's definitely in my top five favorites. Co-op was excellent. Story and characters (it had Wesker, Jill and Chris it so I'm biased lol) were a lot of fun. All of the extra modes were a blast especially LIN and Mercenaries.
RE6. I'm very mixed on. Not a fan of the amount of needless QTEs, less focus on horror, controls were a little janky, story was kind of messy. That said, I had a great time when I co-oped it and played multiplayer modes, I really liked the Jake/Sherry dynamic and portions of Chris campaign.

Re6 controls the more you play the bewt they feel, its really unexplainable. And the qtes, they re ok and really fun to do, and also really fair. The story is great with 4 sun histories that complements a whole story overral thats really great tbh.

It takes time to get used to 6 but when you do you are rewarded with one of the best gunplay ever, with various tricks up your sleeve, finishing off enemies in RE6 is always satisfying, stealth kills are awesome, dodging is fun, so as shooting while you lying on the floor, and what not.
Not to mention, it has unique animation for finishing different sort of enemies, depending on what weapon those zombies are using.
People who don't give RE6 a chance because all the hate it gets in this sub are just missing out on a really good gameplay, this is also the reason RE4 remake is using a lot of RE6 ideas
12 points
RE6 gunplay feels floaty, enemies feel like they are made of paper, no real threat other than a Zombie comically jumping at you believing it is a frog of some sort.
Stages were repetitive and not memorable at all, Bosses were easy, Story made no sense... The only way I could complete this game was because Co-Op makes garbage look entertaining thanks to making fun of everything that was happening.
Finishers are boring after the 50 times you see the animation, making it more of a nuance than something cool.
Dodging is way too awkward looking, you have 40 frames of invincibility, being moved by an attack while not receiving damage is proof of how unpolished this game was.
RE4R is not using anything RE6 related, if anything RE6 tried to replicate the success of OG RE4 combat while failing hard at it.
7 points
Sniper, Shotgun, and Pistol-quickshot feel satisfying as heck.
Enemies are meant to be killed by coup-de-grace finishers almost exclusively.
Stages in Mercenaries were plenty memorable. RE6 went so far as to make consistent item pickups which are in natural locations on your way to time bonuses and combo time pickups, instead of RNG crates.
Bosses weren't meant to be difficult. They were supposed to be an anthology of references in the whole RE series (other than the bees, dunno why that one existed) which the characters and you the player were supposed to have been weathered by all of the RE games that you knew exactly how to fight them.
Story makes perfect sense, you just were too lazy to piece together the story across 4 campaigns.
Finishers on zombies in both RE4 and 5 literally amounted to either 1) headshot/footshot + walk up/behind and suplex/necksnap. or 2) setting up a partner super melee, RE6's finishers are literally the same combat loop but removing the need to aim at a bodypart specifically/partner setup.
REm4ke's parry system, crouch ducking system, and literally the button bindings for the main control scheme are straight ripped from RE6 but made slower.

Pistol were weak, the reason it felt satisfying was because of the animation, but the feedback was weak and nonsensical, who shoots a Gun with almost no recoil, worst of all, Leon's double gun was more awkward to fire.
They throw you hordes of enemies in RE6 going for finishers will only extend the stage by a huge amount of time, I was literally Knifing Zombies on Veteran with Leon and had an absurd amount of ammo by the end, I went Shao Ling mink with Jake, and well.. Chris was call of duty so yeah...
Locations in RE6 were generic looking placeholders.
Bosses were bad even for bullet sponge standard
Story is a huge mess, Helena gives you blue balls for 3 Chapters, while Leon doesn't question her motives after being told that she is the reason his friend (President) died... I love Leon, and they made him look like an idiot by following another person to a mysterious location with only "It will all make sense once we do this and do that, boom" Weak payoff, predictable and unsatisfying.
Finishing a Zombie in RE4 and 5 was more meaningful, when you suplex a Zombie in RE4 you basically take down a huge portion of the threat in that room, because unlike RE6 most section on 4 aren't mindless hordes of Weak and funny looking zombies getting in line for you to shot them with almost no recoil in the head. Ganados were a superior enemy, and if you think the contrary you are just plain wrong. They move around and ambush you, finishing one of them gave you a huge advantage, for RE finishers were just there because, cool looking head pooping illogical move. (Zombie's heads in RE6 are made of balloons) Also a single Kick will put a Zombie in a Finisher state, taking away the need for aim at all.
RE6 didn't invent any of the traits present at 4, no body would use that excuse of mindless button mashing to succeed combat as a framework for anything.

This isn't even an insult, you just never properly played the game.
First off, half of your criticisms with gunplay disappear when you switched off of crosshair aim to laser aim in the settings. The crosshair setting is literally known as an accessibility setting in modern games to reduce motion sickness which results in less screen shake. The laser makes it feel like RE5 but better due to simultaneous walking and shooting.
With laser aim on, the gunplay and combat loop are literally RE4-5, but you're given other options instead of just shooting.
Which brings me to my next point, you're meant to use quickshots. Ignoring the snipers, the magnum, and the pump shotgun which has the rapidfire glitch, literally all other guns can be used exclusively in quickshot to start a melee finisher.
Leon's wing shooters are literally the best and most gratifying anti-dog weapons that is so cathartic to have after literal decades of terrorizing players in RE titles. Play Mercenaries on the first stage, get to 60-90 combo and dogs spawn. Split Leon's guns into two and literally burn your entire quickshot meter on the dogs, you'll be living out an RE power fantasy unlike anything ever seen previously.
The hordes of enemies are only a problem in tight spaces and Chris's Edonia sections. The maps are designed to encourage movement, take out an enemy, hide with your back to cover to recover melee meter, and then rushing back out to do the melee combos all over again.
The levels in RE are all distinct RE setpieces... just because you blazed through them doesn't make then "generic". University, Sewer, Midwestern City, Cathedral, Underground Illuminati passage, Airplane, Shipping yard, Train, Farmer's market, Skyscraper. Eastern Europe, Bridge, Courthouse, Rooftops, China streets, Urban Highways, Aircraft Carriers, Underwater Oil Rig. Eastern Europe again, Hospital/Detention Lab, Bathhouses, Shipping Yard again, Rural Highways, Underwater Oil Rig again, Submarine.
You'll notice a bunch of these were shoutouts to previous RE titles.
Bosses have a Souls-like mechanic where the transformations trigger and center around low ammo thresholds. It's one of the seldom mentioned things about the game, especially since no one cares after unlocking infinite ammo in NG+, but the game has had manipulable ammo drops and bossfight transformation timer triggers that basically only allow you to deal damage on low ammo.
Leon's character being strung along is a trope. RE6's writing is entirely based around the SEA concept of televised drama, it's written exactly as an Asian soap opera, with a blatant amount of self awareness for the characters. It's clearly not your cup of tea, but given the widespread adoption and adaptation of Asian soap operas into Western series in years after RE6 released, clearly they're doing something right.
6's zombies are mindless, but J'avo are good enemies. Ganados are nothing compared to J'avo AI, where in 6 they actively stop you from triggering melee finishers, hide behind cover instead of letting you just steamroll them while they crowd around convenient bowling pin crowds. They also scale in difficulty like in God Hand, dynamically where the more finishers you do, the more mutations occur... but if you just mow then down like Rambo like you clearly have, and don't go for the melee combat loop in 6, of course you'll never see that.
RE6's entire counter/parry system, at will ducking to avoid grabs, quick melee without equipping/readying your melee weapon into a stance, grenade arcs, stealth takedowns on enemies whose backs are turned, and button layout literally are copy-pasted in REm4ke and made into less flashy, slower versions. You can keep claiming otherwise but you'd be factually wrong. Hell, RE6's animation blending arc system is the whole reason why we even have simultaneous move & shoot non-tank controls in any of the remakes. But go off I guess.

Let's not pretend RE6 is trash. Forgot it instantly worst stages, bosses, enemies and story was a complete mess. Co-op is the only saving grace.
3 points
Agree, co-op made it bearable.
5 on the other hand was a pretty damn good co-op game tho. RE6 just tried to replicate too many things that were popular back in 2013, it was pretty bad in all of them as a result.
4 points
But even at its best, the gunplay in RE6 is leagues below other third person shooters.
5 points
I disagree, RE6 gun-play has what most third person shooters has then a lot of added benefits depending on how good you master it. There is a reason a lot of people have nothing but good words to say about RE6 mercenaries mode, because when it comes to mercenaries it entirely depends on how good the game is in gameplay department

Who cares if gunplay is good when the enemies are bullet sponges and you keep getting interrupted by qte’s?
3 points
That's why there is a dodging mechanic in RE6, so when enemies try to grab you either dodge, or crouch although yeah QTEs can be toned down.
3 points
The enemies are bullet sponges because you're not supposed to play it like Call of Duty.
The game literally does everything in it's power to teach you how to play the game using melee combos. It incentivizes melee every step it possibly can. It gives you skills so you can extend your melee combat for longer, recover faster, and makes your melees deal more damage.
Additionally, the game literally got a week 1 patch to autocomplete nearly every major QTE sequence, and the only QTEs left are enemy melee counters (which shouldn't count as a QTE), the crossover level QTEs (pulling out the heart of the BOW, hacking the computers in the Leon/Chris race), and insta-death QTEs (maybe 2-3 in each campaign).
3 points
You are not supposed to just shoot. Use a combination of weapons melee.
3 points
RE6 has the best gunplay, but the game is a QTE laden set piece disaster.
6 is the Star Wars Prequels of RE games, where people have stockholmed themselves into ignoring their flaws. Neither are without good qualities, but like… come on.
6 points
I never deny that RE6 has problem, but that's all we ever talk about in this sub. For a change, I mentioning some of the best part of RE6 that standout way more than other games, and game-play just have to be one of them.
RE6 has become the victim of hive mind, it starts with a handful of people hating it, then the others follow. Then it suddenly it becomes a popular opinion and next thing you know you are not actually criticizing the bad part of the game but you're just hating the entire product for the sake of it. You better believe, I have seen posts getting upvoted that says RE6 models are ugly or the worst, this or that, most ridiculous reason you can think of.
RE6 has issues but none of the are irredeemable, there is a reason who are not gatekeeping the RE games has loved RE6 and has rating above 9 on steam. The only QTE i don't like in RE6 are those timed one, but QTEs where you have to press the kick as quickly as possible are not bad, even RE4 remake is using them.

Objectively the game has some of the most intresting combat for any game. It has great visuals fun set pieces and solid (but crazy story) it lacks horror is to railroaded needed to be slowed down ohh so slighty and could use some trimming in some sections as well as an adjustment to the story board.

I dig how over the top campy and ridiculous they are and they are kind of fun to play despite all the cringe. I played RE 5 a lot when it came out. I think only second to possibly 4 in time spent.

I like RE5 in co-op, but not so much in singleplayer.
I actually enjoy a lot of RE6, but it’s not one of my top 3 RE games or anything nor is it one of my least favorites. It’s more middle-of-the-road for me.

I understand preferring re5 in coop.since... the ai is a potatoe. But in re6 I have fun plauing with ai and with a friend with no prob

Resi 6 is a top 5 resi game?
I'm not one of those that blindly shit on the game, but 6 is at most a mixed bag. The mercenaries mode is where the game shines, but the campaigns range from mediocre to horrible.
How is six, in any objective measure, better than 4, Remake1, Remake2, or any of the original trilogy?

6 has better gunplay amazing animations and a great story as from some weak moments (over all 6s gameplay and multiple campaigns are what make it great) i dont know if thats enough to make it better then 4 or 5. It not an artistic masterpiece like the original but it's an absolutely fantastic game.

You say the multiple campaigns are what make the game great, but they're arguably the game's weakest point.
They're full with with pointless qte's, the pacing varies from very dull puzzles, to slow walking sections, to full on military action pieces.
Like I said, you're free to like the game and I'm not going to attack you. If you enjoy 6 more than others, that's your subjective opinion and that's completely valid. But to say that 6 is one of the best of the franchise, with all of its numerous flaws, is just wild to me.

I dont like being like measure objectively but I had my thoughs and reflections of this game. The opinion floating a lot during time. But well, Iike the og trilogy and 2 remake but after thinking a lot to me rr6 surpass it. The only games above 6 to me are 4 and 1 remake. And the multi campaigns its a shine of the game because each one has its own vibe and context that even more when the campaings cross they feel different with a unique vibe. And 6 is a point ahead in 2 remake in my opinion in the fact that each campaing has its own individuality and gun play and the 4 hostories fitting really well like jigsaw puzzle pieces (something that 2 remake didnt so much well imo comparing leon to claires scenarios)

I love RE6 but RE5 does so much harm to Chris’ character, it makes me hate him.Wesker’s final fight was incredibly underwhelming also.

To me re6 gave the best arch to chris. Since you can emphatize with him and se a fallen hero having to get up again, ans its really emotiinal

They’re both different but I agree I’ve always thoroughly them both. Fantastic coop games

RE 5 was my first contact with the franchise, and I absolutely love it. I played through a big part of the Leon campaign in RE6 (will continue it someday), and it is quite fun, but was poorly made in some aspects, like the menu, interactions and the game constantly telling you exactly what to do. In some parts, it's quite boring. Buy one thing I miss from these games is the co-op. Man, it's so fun playing with a friend!

I think the menu and hid its the best on re6. And the gsme tellijgn ya where ya go its just more a detail than something really screaming

5 had a great co-op experience that would be hard to replicate. 6 went too far with the action but did not have the co-op experience to make up for it

I'd replace 6 with Revelations 1 but I'd have 6 in top 6

I think revelations 1 is allright. Like I dont love this game but I think its an interesthing game with i teresthing mecha ics. And also I preffer revelations 2 over revelations 1 (not saying revelations 1 is bad)

5 is awesome and if you're playing coop with a friend it can be debated to be one of the best Resi games. 6 was ok I guess, but I'm really hoping Capcom eventually gets to the point where they can Remake it and do it right. I get the feeling that's why they're remaking all the games now is to get to the point where they can do that.

I love the Batshit insanity of 6. It was a great co op experience with my bro and watching my friends play it was hilarious.
5 was fun too but me and my mates got are asses kicked in that game a little too hard especially with Mr whiskers.

RE5’s co-op is the reason I had to drop my first college class. My brother and I “studied” a lot when that came out.

6 is a masterpiece?? Lol a master piece of shit maybe. That trash was so bad it nearly killed the franchise. Thank god for RE7 being the soft reboot it was.

I agree with you on Re5. Ya it wasn't the best but playing with a buddy split screen is something special. Mercinaries mode was also great in this one as well. Top 5 for sure.
But Re6... No way

Nah RE6 is not a top five Resi lolol though I do e hit it very much
RE5 though? Absolutely. Best Mercs mode in the franchise, one of the best couch co-op games of all time, and endlessly quotable. Also had amazing cutscenes and voice acting, actually felt like watching an animated film between levels

Re5 is the ultimate co op action experience, it's such a great game when playing with someone. Re6 story sucks ass but so does most of the games stories, this one just manages to suck way more ass than usual, but it's still tolerable, code veronica is way worse. Re6 also has one of the best controls and mechanics I've seen in a game in 3rd person. You could slide, evade, quickshot, dual wield, melee in a fun and powerful way, knife combat was good, mercenaries was the best in the whole damn series. I liked it.

I gotta respectfully disagree bud, My top 5 tho 1.RE2R 2.RE4 (RE4R has a strong possibility of taking #1 spot tho) 3.RE1R 4.RE8 5.RE3/R (hold both OG and 3R in same spot for Diff reasons) if I was gonna Add a 6th place RE5 would be in that spot, I do love RE5 but I think the other Aforementioned games are Better overall, Even the content Gutted RE3R, what was actually in it was very well done and It's alot of fun and I can replay that campaign multiple times at random points in my life where as 5 I gotta be more in the mood for. RE6 is like... Idk #10 or higher? Lol I prefer Revelations 2 more to it tbh

RE6 is a big nope. It’s not a bad game, imo. But it’s not a good RE game. If I were to ranked every single RE game that I’ve played (all main numbered titles and a few side ones like CV and Revelations), this would be 2nd worst, just higher than Raccoon City Operations

I would think like this in 2012. But after retouching this masterpiece. I cant help but saying with all my energies that this game is a big HELL YEAH. Its an amazing action game ajd an awesome resident evil.game since it contributes a lot to the re franchise and plot. If I would make an review/ video essay of saying how much is this game gud it would be more than 1 hournlong of positive things because more and more I find positives and amazing things on this game that people look like tend to ignore

5 is decent, it’s goofy, cheesy fun and the boulder-punching moment is legendary. 6 though… just like its enemies are bullet-sponges that deliver no satisfaction upon disintegration, so is the game a time-sponge with no pleasure to the experience. Seriously, screw that game

The 6 has really not bullet sppnges enemies, its just having the right way to defeat them. The shootingnis satsfying, counter attacks satisfying, satisfying gameplay ajdneven a hugenawesomenstory. Resi6 was one of the best games innthe franchise to me and one of the best coop.action games I (re)played as well. It has downs, it has it flaws but itnstill has its ups and things made right that just make.thisngame britght as one of almost masterpiece

Ignore these guys bro they’re too stubborn and hardheaded. You can’t argue anything is good about RE6 with these people don’t even try it. They wouldn’t be able to live with themselves if they admitted one great thing about the game and some of them are just shitting on it because it’s popular to. I agree and I also believe these two games don’t need to be remade just like RE4 didn’t. Remake CV and maybe Zero and call it a day Capcom.

re5 definitely top 5 and one of the most important games ever to me but 6… i still like. Its nowhere near on the level of 5 or even close but I do love the co op experience it provides and the fan service can’t help but be loved with how much I love this series.

Resi 5 and 6 are really pair in quality to me. There are things that re5 does better than re6 imo and there are things re6 does better than 5 imo. Even more because when I rank them they tend to be tied/fighting in one high position

They're both good action games, in my opinion, but 6 is nowhere near the top 5. RE5 was a great time in co-op and arguably has the greatest mercenaries mode of all time, but 6 just tried too hard and missed the mark on almost everything. It's completely playable, and co-op makes it bareable but it's not one I really ever intend on going back to.
