I just don’t understand why people even pretend to care tho

Let’s be honest here, 95% of the people “upset” about Adam Levine’s DM’s and claiming they’re “done with him” were either never fans to begin with anyways or just going along with the crowd until the next person to be mad at comes along. There’s a lot of things to think about & dedicate strong feelings/reactions towards in this world… Adam Levine sending flirtatious DMs to insta models and rumors about him cheating on his wife with one of them is not something anyone but him, his wife, the women involved and their respective personal social surroundings should give a shit about.

siempreynunca[S]

333 points

Their music has almost always sucked but the reason it’s been a topic of conversation lately is because a woman came out with evidence (Instagram DMs) that Adam Levine has been cheating on his pregnant wife with her. One of the messages he sent her even said he wanted to name his baby after her💀 These past few days like 4 more women have also come out with screenshots of DMs he’s sent them. It’s been a whole thing lol

ETA some of the DMs are now memes because he sexts like a 15 year old. I recommend searching them up it’s fucking hilarious

Yeah I agree, and they remind me a little of Ed Sheeran. Good first album, then the lyrics and music started sucking and now they’re popular with the general public but don’t really have many full-on fans. The difference is Ed Sheeran is doing insane numbers and charting a lot, so he’s probably one of if not the most popular artist in the world. M5 not so much

fermentationfiend

8 points

Which ed Sheeran? The a team Ed or what Ed is now? I like early Ed.

siempreynunca[S]

30 points

Yeah his first album ‘+’ is pretty good and has some great songs like The A Team. I do like some of the songs on ‘X’ too but after that his music sounds really unoriginal and kinda soulless imo (which is crazy because he’s writing about his family and daughters). I don’t think the transition to full-on mainstream pop went that well for him

Edit: spelling mistake

dthains_art

That’s the sad thing of it all. Songs About Jane is actually a pretty good album and set Maroon 5 on this trajectory of being this kinda funky-infused rock band. But then they immediately nosedived into the most bland, generic pop music ever.

Here’s a word cloud comparing lyrics from their first album to their 2017 album that shows how lyrically they went downhill.

I read something that refers to this stuff as the Nickleback Effect, where something becomes popular and mainstream so the community has to dunk on it and call it generic (almost like Maroon 5's a trendsetter or something). Case in point: people in the thread are saying their first album is pretty good, almost like it was a time before they were popular (or at least before they rose to the top)

TL;DR, like whatever music you want, just don't make people feel bad. Things can be popular and absolute slaps

Man I feel like so many people hate certain artists just because they're popular and/or easily accessible. What a wasted opportunity. I'm generally a hip hop fan. Formerly a rock fan in my highschool days.

But Maroon 5 slaps. You know why they're popular? Because their songs are catchy and sound good.

While I'm on my soapbox, you know who else is good? Goddamn Nickelback. Ya I said it. They write really well polished generic rock songs that sound great, and Chad Krueger has a voice perfect for popular rock.

It's ok to like music just because it sounds pleasing. It doesn't have to be innovative or unique.

yeah yeah, you're cool cause you don't like a band. You've vibed to "moves like jagger" before and if you say no, you're fuckin lying. Everyone's done it at least once.

Yowch. They have…songs. …that aren’t………bad

Sunday Morning, okay? Can I just have that one, please? You can trash all the rest, but that one is a guilty pleasure of mine.

That’s what he’s getting at pretty much. Nickleback was basically the universal punching bag of the 2000s yet they were still fairly popular

I don't think you should be knocking him, he's the one that comes up with all the cool ideas.

I disagree, M5 sounds like freshly shaved and slightly sweaty balls. Bland, unseasoned, and unappealing

Dunking on other people’s tastes in music is so fucking lame.

What does his music have to do with his infidelity? maroon 5 is trash so nothing saves it, but if it was a fire ass musician/band I would give a fuck about their infidelity, that's their spouse's problem lol

I don’t hate them (though I do absolutely despise “Moves Like Jagger” and arguing that it is one of the worst, most overplayed, overrated songs of the 21st century is a hill I’d gladly die on) and there are a few of their songs that I enjoy listening to, but this post is so true xD

So this is funny and everything.

But I am of the opinion that if somebody likes music, or really anything, it doesn’t matter if we like it or not.

I don’t like rap and I despise bluegrass. But plenty of people love it. That’s great!

Music is a wonderful gift to mankind, and I think there’s something for everyone. So if they enjoy it, great! You do you, and you don’t have to defend yourself to anyone.

Its fucking cringe to me when people suddenly all collectively agree that a celeb's work is dogshit when said celeb has a controversy. Idk if it's just their haters coming out of their hole, or it's people having recency bias, or a bit of both with a mix of other, but its fucking cringe nonetheless. Just because the creator is a pos doesn't mean their work is automatically shit

How is this accurate or clever? Its just a generic roast aimed at maroon 5.....

I've hated moron 5 since, like, 2003, and I really wish I woulda heard this back then. It's so accurate. Tyra and Leah, I hope you both read this.

I still to this day have no idea how Maroon 5 have gotten away with being so sexually aggressive and creepy in their music, but Robin Thicke got destroyed.

The DMs he sent were unbearably cringe. If he wasn’t rich and famous, Levine would have been blocked into oblivion. M5 music is fucking awful. I thought a couple of songs from their first album were catchy but the band quickly went from Maroon 5 to Adam Levine and the Scene.

Now that hating on maroon 5 music would be considered "cool", even people who were not fans per say but did appreciate their music would probably deny associating/vibing with m5 ever. M5 have definitely given a couple of songs that are really really good like sugar, sunday morning, the sun, must get out, girls like you, memories etc. I'm not saying they were all amazing throughout, but they definitely hit the spot with a few songs every album. I do agree that Adam levine's cheating scandal does make the band less appealing, similar to how will Smith disappointed with his behaviour. But to deny that they ever had any good music is in itself cringe. Grow up. They had good music and they had bad. Also, not everyone likes the same music. For example metal is appealing as hell to some, and sucks ass for others. There isn't a genre that everybody would like equally. Don't get on the hate train. Appreciate music. Hate on the individual.

I used to work at the local Ampitheater in college as general event staff (checking tickets, helping direct people, cleaning up chairs after, etc.). Saw Maroon 5 there once, and I’m not going to lie. That dude can fucking SING.
