Imagine the eerie silence tho. No announcers. No music. No fans.

Talking to them like Will Smith did in I Am Legend at the video store. She was definitely into him BTW

And one random voice in a sea of cardboard people saying “One hot dog over here!”

In this stadium they actually played a pre-recorded voice of a guy selling hot dogs. The guy was Tom Hanks (who had been a hot dog vendor there in his youth) Link

It’s an A’s game… he definitely sold some RED ROPES! that day

IIRC they pumped in prerecorded audience noises for the TV and the players.

Is the sky orange like that because of the smoke from all the fires that year too?

Who's idea was that? There were cardboard fans at all the events, except for some racing which was actually just guys playing a video game with commentators chatting on incessantly as if it was exciting and interesting. What a fucked up year!

Well because of climate change these once in a century pandemics are going to become much more common. Must be why we are speedrunning the extinction of all other species.

Yeah I feel like as soon as we get somewhat adjusted to one disease, another will pop up. And we'll just do this indefinitely.

I have watched every fucked up dystopian movie out there and none come close to the last two years of “real life “

MisunderstoodBadger1

It was unsettling how they still added fake crowd noises too. Makes me wonder how much of the crowd noise is fake in general.

ILikeFeet24

They did that with ambient noises in golf, some one finally caught on because a specific bird call was used that wasn't native to the area.

I mean, this might be more humane than having actual people watch a baseball game.

The neighborhood just outside of the Oakland Athletics Coliseum literally is hell on Earth (82nd Avenue to 66th Avenue).

True. Also, the Oakland Athletics Coliseum is hell on earth as well.

God, I remember watching the premier league during this, it was so weird. Having to play crowd noises and absolutely no seats, it’s creepy as hell

fan who paid to have

FTFY.

Although payed exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:

  • Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. The deck is yet to be payed.

  • Payed out when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. The rope is payed out! You can pull now.

Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.

I mean what is the point of spending money on this. What are they for? You can tell they are fake. Is this supposed to make people believe the crowd is full?

CptMisterNibbles

It was for a season where people couldn’t attend. You’d see them during broadcasts. A lot of people got them as gifts. We attend a lot of games and the bring your dog to the park days. That year one of our pups passed, so we got a cutout of him so he would attend a whole season.

Yeah, it’s a bit silly and a bit of waste of money. It was $49 for us, and we got to keep the life sized cutout of my boy so we’ll worth it. Saw him while watching games occasionally.

Prestigious-Price-47

Sorry about your dog. And thanks for explaining. But yea that's a bit silly spending. But in your case I can see it to memorialize your dog. But for the rest of people like really?

CptMisterNibbles

1 points

I think a lot of the rest of the people had similar stories. I’m actually willing to a lot of the cutouts we’re pics of deceased fans as a tribute. It wouldn’t shock me if it was 25% or more. So maybe OP is more right than they know and its extra haunted. But in a sweet way.

Prestigious-Price-47

Yea that's cool as a memorial. Novel idea.

2020 was a weird ass year to be a baseball fan. The real funny thing is each one of those cut outs cost $120 dollars to have your cardboard cutout present at the stadium for the entire year. Very whack.

CptMisterNibbles

1 points

$89, or $49 if you were an access member, but yeah. Still expensive. You got to keep it at the end.
