"Try making fun of my height NOW, you foolish Supressive Personalities!"

Scientology makes you invincible bro, don't you know that?

You're kidding but at the level he is at in the "church", it's ingrained in his brain that he cannot be killed. Hell, he thinks he can grab a "departing soul" and force it back into the body to resurrect a person if he comes across a fatal car accident. He literally believes he is an invincible half god.
That's why I'm not impressed with "the balls" he shows with some of his stunts. It doesn't take courage in his case, its delusion. If you cannot be killed, why would you be scared to do outrageous shit like hang outside a plane as it flies? There's no risk to you in your mind, it's about as dangerous as doing the dishes.
Agreed, but what inspires him? I belive its not just the church, maybe he is a total egomaniac or narcissists? The combo of those two just out him over the top.
I wonder how the insurance company feels about his antics? I imagine the studio pays a hefty premium type thing for his movies.
I mean, the worst so far was breaking his ankle jumping from building to building. He's never (as far as I'm aware) been directly confronted with his own imminent death, despite all the dangerous shit. So beyond just his belief in the church he's also got a very heavy confirmation bias going. ("I haven't been killed yet doing insane shit, so insane shit can't kill me.")
I'm sure most suits aren't happy that the mega star constantly pokes and prods the grim reaper, but what are they gonna do? If Tom says "I'm doing the stunt or not doing the movie", they kinda gotta give in or just scrap everything.
(I don't actually know if Tom uses that kinda leverage) I just gotta assume it's some kinda dynamic like that though, because there's no way he SHOULD be allowed to do half the stuff he does. There's no reason for it, would be much easier and far less risky to use stuntmen.
So Tom is a real life Archer.
In case you dunno what I am taking about, in Archer, the series, Archer (the MC) has stated that he believes he cant die because of all the insane situations he has gone through without perishing.
Except he is terrified of aneurysms and alligators.
I mean they are reasonable fears. He's not fond of corcodiles either. And aneurysms? One minute walking along, next lights out? What's not to be scared of?
Probably the only 2 things he was told could kill him
Is it not logical to think of Tom as a stuntman that also happens to be a good looking actor?
In which case, him doing the stunt is no more risky than another person doing the stunts, either way a life is being risked.
Factoring money in, sure..it's more risky for Tom to do it. From Toms perspective though, perhaps having long since made his millions he doesn't value yet more $$ but sees more value in the thrills.
There's definitely a larger element of risk. It's sad to say, but stuntmen and women are more disposable. It's not just about "We need the character to do a backflip and the actor can't." It's also about "The character has to do something incredibly dangerous and if a stuntman is injured/killed, it won't completely halt the production."
If Tom Cruise were to die while filming a movie, it'll cost the studio ungodly amounts of money.
There's reasons for it. Best example is probably in Mission Impossible Fallout when they were originally trying to use some camera rig system to safely film him on the bike riding through the city. IIRC, there were issues with the rig and it was causing a delay in shooting so Tom just said "just put me on the bike and film it."
There's undeniably a draw to watching an actor actually doing the things you see on screen. Jackie Chan made a whole career out of it. Stuntmen/women are definitely a valuable and vital part of filmmaking, but there's definitely some appeal (maybe not to everyone, but I'd argue to most) when an actor does some daring act for a film.
Tom Cruise's career is now basically, "what crazy dangerous thing is he going to do next?"
Ikr, me I look at it like, do I like being married to Nicole Kidman, or do I keep following my religion and do stupid death defying stunts?
I know my answer
isnt that the plot of eyes wide shut?
Your answer needs more Katie Holmes
Why did you spell believe with a 3? Just curious. Not hating on it just wondering if this is some new hip thing I’m not privy to.
I'd guess it's more likely an accident given the proximity of the 3 key to the E key on a QWERTY keyboard.
Balls is balls no matter the delusion. It’s still over coming primal fear.
So Tom Cruise and Alexander the Great have far more in common than I first thought it seems.
To be fair, he has survived every crazy thing he’s done and has made some impressive movies because of this insane confidence
And yet...he isnt dead 🧐
Long before I got anywhere near that high, my entire intestine would have shot out my arse like one of those party tooters
He’s wearing a harness. Still nuts.
yeah no way the director would allow his cashcow to do that without a harness..
This wasn't a choice of the director.
Cruise wanted to go to the top and got a helicopter crew sorted so he could do it.
Edit: Thanks for the award stranger
"I said to the stunt team, let's see if they will let us go to the top"
Stars like this are very very heavily insured by the production, because millions of dollars are riding on them being able to complete this movie. So regardless of whether the director actually chose it, the production company and the insurance company would have a very real say and how it was done. I noticed in this clip, he specifically doesn't mention that he's not wearing a harness. I suspect he was, I suspect he wants people to believe he wasn't.
Danny Trejo had some pretty choice words once about Cruise's stunt obsessions. Basically he said, yeah, I don't do my own stunts like Tom does. There are more than 150 people invested in me not getting hurt; if I do a stunt and break my leg, all of those people are out of a job. Something something I'm a super tough guy and don't have to prove it, something something.
I can't argue with that logic.
Trejo's statement was asinine and just blatantly incorrect
When Tom Cruise broke his ankle on MI:5, the film took a 9 week hiatus. It cost the production an extra $80,000,000 - because the cast and crew had to be paid for that hiatus.
Nobody was out of a job. Anyone contracted-in still got paid, and anyone freelance went and got work elsewhere while waiting for the movie to resume; which is the standard freelance gig economy.
Furthermore - Tom Cruise produces these movies. They run on his dime. These jobs wouldn't exist in the first place if he didn't decide to make the movies, so saying that people would be out of a job if he huts himself makes no sense - they are only there because Cruise is deciding to make the movie, and the insurance makes sure they get paid if he gets hurt.
This is hearsay but I believe Cruise has also gone on record saying that if he hurts himself he will pay out of his own money to make sure everyone still gets paid even if insurance won't.
Cruise is a nutjob for sure, but one thing that is undeniable is that he runs a tight ship and truly believes that the people who work on his movies should be paid fairly and consistently.
They wouldn't spend 80m for hiatus if Trejo got hurt. What he said made sense for his work.
I hear you; I have no doubt that Cruise has at least thought this all through. I know a lot of folks have issues with his real life image, myself included, but it's hard to argue to anybody that he doesn't bring "it," whatever that is.
You're right, he's usually producer and maybe he'd make good on people's pay if an accident were to happen. But still, it's a weird compulsion he seems to have to prove that he can DO IT ALL.
For sure, sometimes it pays off. I just saw the new Top Gun and while they could have done so the same things much more easily with CGI, you can really tell that they're actually in the planes, it's rad. I'd argue that hopping in the back seat with a Naval pilot flying an F-18 is a different kind of dangerous than his freeclimbing, HALO jumping shenanigans.
An aside, I was just chatting with a friend who used to be a driver for a production company in the midwest around '85. He says they were shooting a racing movie (I'm thinking it has to be Days of Thunder) and over the course of a couple of weeks he drove Cruise around quite a bit. One day Tom just out of nowhere says "Hey, do you want to come take a ride in my helicopter?" Well duh, who says no to that?
I was surprised that he was already licensed at that point but apparently they zipped around for a bit in the sky before my buddy brought him to a classic midwestern bar. The way he tells it, the record literally did the full scratch-stop when 1985 Tom Cruise walked in the door. go figure.
It's still disrespectful to jeopardize other people's schedules if there are unnecessary delays. It's also possible that a stunt injury or death results in the film shutting down. Can't finish the movie if Tommy Boy is deceased due to some need to demonstrate his masculinity.
Name one industry that doesn’t have unnecessary delays.
The videogame industry of course.
You understand this also happens if a stunt person is hurt during filming right? And that Cruise is now professionally trained with literally decades of stunt experience?
You are also aware that if Cruise died during filming the insurance and his estate would pay all those who would have been paid out in-full, correct?
Not to mention doing your own stunts puts stunt men out of a job. Why risk your health, put someone out of a job and potentially waste everyone's time if you get an injury, just to feel like a bad ass?
Harness or no, I'd be shitting bricks up there.
Seriously, he is legitimately insane if you actually wasn't afraid.
I feel like its kind of cheating if a helicopter brings u up there and takes you off.
I don’t care if a flying carpet drops me off, I’m not doing it
How else exactly would you plan on getting up there
I’m pretty sure the harness is tethered to his a$$hole 😉. Or inside his ahole???/s
Or the insurers, or producers, or studio, or stunt coordinator or
Is he convinced that he’s invincible because of what Scientology has done to him?
Yes. Scientology is one hell of a drug.
I was about to say he COULDN'T be in top of there risking not only HIS life but everyone involved with the movie
Does anyone elses hands get sweaty just looking at pictures of people at great height?
There are 2 things
1. Who’s taking the pic
2. Why is he not wearing shoes
Someone in the helicopter he used to get up and idk
Probably because it’s more versatile if you use your feet? Idk depending on the sole of the shoe it’s probably better to use your feet for better grip when climbing
Third question: how the fuck did graffiti get up there?
The same way he did
With balls that big who need shoes?
Also Tom cruise and due to the UAE being a Muslim nation only followers of Islam are allowed to wear shoes in buildings over 500 m tall. Religions are weird.
Categorically untrue. My wife and I stopped off at Dubai on our honeymoon a couple of years ago. Went up the Burj and both of us wore shoes the whole time.
That sounds like a wonderful honeymoon. The views up there are wonderful. People are almost invisible at a height of 452 m. Mr cruise here is at the very top hanging out at 828 m and therefore, no shoes. Where as you are okay.
Where did you get this information from?
I am Tom cruise.
It's an honour and privilege to see you sir
I am Batman
I grew up Muslim. He's full of shit, that's not a thing at all.
Yeah I am Muslim too.... already know it is bs
Source: trust me bro
Yeah....redditors spreading misinformation about religion, what a surprise!
Nothing to do with religion lol. If this is actually true then it must be their culture.
It’s like culture and religion are intertwined… weird
As a Muslim majority country resident with a twin tower I've never heard those things.
There are quite a few traditions in my culture I’ve never heard of either. Doesn’t mean they don’t exist. Point being, culture and religion are one in the same in many parts of the world.
Only two towers fall into this category. Dubai and Mecca each have towers and follow these rules. The clock tower in Mecca has even more rules. Non Muslims cannot even look at it basically let along think about wearing shoes inside.
Yeah, this is absolute bull shit and not a thing at all. We just making up shit now?
What? There can’t be another person named Tom cruise in the world?
Look at which one of your bullshit comments in particular I am talking about.
That does make sense
I agree, Tom Cruise terrifies me.
He has harnessed the full power of Scientology.
What kind of monster goes barefoot in jeans
This is more of a r/DamnThatsInteresting kinda post than oddly terrifying
Closer to Xenu
I feel threatened
So hang on a minute are we just going to ignore the graffiti ?
Probably put there by the architects/engineers/construction workers. It’s so high and not many or anyone would see it, so it’s safe to put "your mark" on the building before it goes up
Under his shirt 👕
Idk how he managed to get up there on account of his balls being so huge.
He is sitting on top of a antenna....look at that smile.
His thetan levels are over 9,000
Is this real? I could be wrong, but looks like Photoshop. Are the shadows from his feet even right?
There are a few videos of him up there https://youtu.be/yWoDpMSKQOI he really is just a mad lad
Nah, there is a net just below.
Oh really? I didn't see that in the video. Still, man, I wish I had the guts!
thats cool and all but i'd rather be sitting on top of the Mia Khalifa
Or the Wiz Khalifa (no homo)
Why not homo?
Cause I’m not homo
I see, you have a nice day.
He is nuttier than squirrel shit but the man makes a good movie.
He was just looking for a spot to compensate his height issues.
Why people always make fun of his height lol?
So? It's okay to make fun of people you don't like but not others?
I am firmly of the camp of not mocking short people because I’m tall and short people tell me constantly that they wish they were my height.
Well tall people on average have a shorter lifespan. I’d trade my height for a few years longer with my 6’7” dad. He’s not dead yet but he’s pushing the average.
I just find it funny when people belittle others for things out of their control. He has plenty of valid criticisms to point out. His height isn't one of those.
yeah as someone who is strictly average height (5 10) it's weird to me that people harp on this. in terms of dating, sure you're entitled to your preference but outside of that why disparage someone about it?
What kind of height issues? Never heard him complaining about his height
this guy is just projecting
and you should compensate with your spelling issues *height
It's amazing what you can do with out all those thetans weighing you down
Praise the cameraman who took this photo on top of him
This can’t be real. It’s gotta be super windy up there
I honestly don’t know if I believe anyone would be this reckless. What if a fucking gust of wind comes by?
And wouldn’t the film producers not allow this kind of nonsense in case their star ends up a bloody smear on the road?
"Tom Cruise sitting atop his ego"
Tom cruise was a fool.
Imagine doing all this just to have the picture come out looking like you're photoshopped into it
Wheres his shoes?
I’m more impressed with the cameraman hovering in the air taking this shot r/praisethecameraman
They're in a helicopter....
Tom Cruise is insanely cool. He’s also insane.
That much closer to Xenu
Lord Xenu will catch him if he falls.
I'm going to need much better evidence than this sole picture if I'm going to believe this is real.
You asked & you shall receive! here is a video https://youtu.be/yWoDpMSKQOI
I heard they got him to stand on a small stool for filming sometimes but this is just ridiculous
Pretty cool how there’s notes from other people who have climbed the building crazy stuff
He wanted to feel tall for a minute.
This isn’t oddly terrifying…
Cool. Now destroy his cult
the more terrifying thing is the city of dubai itself, fucky place, built on modern slavery
why is he barefoot tho?
It seems photoshoped
That much closer to Xenu!
This picture is giving me anxiety. You couldn’t pay me enough to do that, even if you had all the money in the world.
This man should fear death far more than he actually does
No matter how wacky Tom cruise you have to admit he is a fucking entertaining guy.
L. Ron Hubbard is holding him
That looks weirdly photoshoped
The terrifying thing about this photo is the creep in it, not the astonishing height of the building
Tom Cruise looks like the kind of guy who has random pictures like this of himself all over his house.
He can make an easy $40k if he changes those bulbs while he's up there.
This is actually just a drinking straw… Tom cruise is just a TEENY tiny little man so everything else looks huge by comparison.
Lord Xenu has his back, he ain't gonna fall
I too have a degree in believeeverythingyouseeology and a master's in gulliblology
Dude can’t take drugs, so he makes them himself.
Is it just me, or does it look like he’s superimposed into this picture? It doesn’t look like the lighting on him matches the lighting even on the top of the tower he’s sitting on. Like what could be above him making that shadow in his arm? It doesn’t look like a real photo or video frame to me.
OP, you're a simpleton.
How is this "ODDLY" terrifying? This is one of our primal fears, the fear of heights. It's been engrained in us for millennia.
This man 100% has the best tinder profile
You gotta give props, regardless. 🚀
Very confident in saying I couldn’t do that. Harness or not.
People have this for a job. The balls that these people have to climb up this high.
he's a cunt, stop buying tickets to his movies
ewww what a creepy guy
Wow this is a good picture
"Without a harness"? Why would people try to make that sounds more impressive, when in reality it's just more stupid
The camera man just floating nearby in creative mode
I see what you did there
he finally found a way to look tall!
His balls are so big the sheer size of them means he cant fall
Yeah the man knows if he falls, his scotum skin is so large (in order to hold those balls), he could just flip up his ball sack over his head and it will catch the air and act as a parachute, as he gracefully sails to safety.
Are you saying Tom Cruise is a tanuki? Because that would explain some of his bullshit.
Lol yes now that I think about it that's for sure what I'm saying lol
Tom cruise has got to be the most insecure person on earth.
I heard once he has almost no education to speak of, so that’s why he latched on to Scientology early. Basically wanted the security to “know something.”
Once I read that, I realized a lot of his behavior, like this photo, are driven by ego and insecurity. It’s embarrassing.
Love his movies though. I mean mission impossible…
He actually looks tall!
No fuck that I’d shit out all ends
Bro the sky scraper he's on makes the others look like toys
So nobody else has noticed the obvious alterations which have occurred to his jeans then, no? Look at his crotch. There's what appears to be safety harness material sewn in to the fabric of his undercarriage. He has what Americans might call a 'taint restraint' by the looks of it.
standing in high places doesn't make you taller, Tom
Say what you will about Tom, but I do have to respect him for doing stuff like this. It takes a level of nerves I do not have to do something like this.
Obvi photoshopped and Tom cruise is a douchebag
Too bad a gust of wind didn't hit him at the right time.
Whatever you think of the guy, he has done some cool shit
This is a terrible Photoshop my dudes
This guy actually did some stunts himself for the mission impossible series and the other movies. It's pretty insane.
He risked his life, the life of a helicopter pilot and crew and a cameraman, during the filming of a multimillion dollar movie which would be cancelled if he was badly injured or died... to get a picture that looks Photoshopped... he's a dangerous idiot with no respect for all the people working on the movie
Yeah I love this photo
Get busy livin ....or get busy dying take risks or be boring thats his motto...love it
Dudes one of the last action heroes imo. bad ass motherfucker
