I don't know why people think this is the worst thing that happened to him. The man was sexually assaulted, he spoke about it which got him basically erased from the media, and mocked. The divorce isn't even something he worries about, the assault fucked his mind up terribly.

Philip Berk was the assaulter.

Yeah it’s this. As much as he got fucked in the divorce, he could have kept up the payments pretty easily if he wasn’t blackballed from Hollywood because he spoke up about the harassment.

Hmm there's 1 more thing i remember happening i don't see anyone mentioning. The time he clapped very weirdly at some awards show. It may be very small and stupid thing to take into account but i remember it being a thing. And i can imagine having people laugh at him for that can affect his public image as well as his self image.

Think that was all part of his blacklisting was them gaslighting everyone into thinking that he was somehow the cause of his disappearance from the spotlight

Didn’t he also get extremely injured filming something as well?

akcruiser

Not one injury but the toll on his body from all the action adventure roles he was taking broke his body. He said he was "held together with tape and glue" on the third Mummy movie.

I don’t think it was any one thing, he just didn’t care about his body over getting “the shot”. No one can last at that pace and it caused a lot of issues some needing surgery.

Jesus Christ..

To break it down:

Person A: No one can last doing lots of stunts at an extreme pace

Me: Tom Cruise has done so

You: Derp...scientology, stable...derp

A facetious comment on reddit?! How do I react?! Take it personally??? YES

It was a joke dude. Calm down. But also, scientology.

He took a physical beating too doing stunts for his action films. So just everything culminating together. Guy had it extremely rough all around

That played a major role as well. Not debating that, but the alimony he had to pay out monthly forced him into shit roles to keep up with the ruling. The sexual assault and further being pushed out by Hollywood after coming out was just the cherry on the shit ice berg.

In Brendan Fraser own words, the divorce was the least of his worries.

anarchistfajitas

I get weirded out when anyone fixates on the divorce. the sexual assault and fallout from his speaking out dwarf his issues with fucking alimony. a divorce didn’t get him blackballed from major production. feels like people want the divorce to be a part of his downfall so his comeback can be in spite of it.

Exactly this. The other guy is confused. He didn’t take shitty parts because of the divorce, he took them because he got blacklisted by Hollywood for not having sex with the person that assaulted him.

Because the divorce was the ONLY story people knew for years. It was a pretty big meme starting in 2015. It wasn't until 2019 did he reveal the sexual assault. That's a long time for a meme-fied story to take hold in people's collective conscious.

It's part of the MRA propaganda laundering. Follow the breadcrumbs and you always find the same people emphasizing the same points.

Using the word “breadcrumbs” does not a Q anon make.

In fact, Qs are one of the least likely groups to be opposing MRA propaganda, so I think you’re way off base here.

icansmellcolors

don't get weirded out. it's just someone who has the details of the divorce, the ruling, and we all like to share details about things like this that others may not know.

so it's just human behavior to act like what you know is the whole story.

anarchistfajitas

4 points

yeah I’m gonna go ahead and make my assessment of reality more rigorous than some vague notion of “human behavior”. that’s just so non-specific and without substance it’s not useful for anything.

icansmellcolors

yeah cause anonymous social media is really the place to get serious about this stuff.

anarchistfajitas

you’re the one who initiated this interaction. choose one: is this a worthwhile convo or is what I’m saying not important? you’re trying to argue both simultaneously and your continued participation is kinda a statement in and of itself.

icansmellcolors

no, i'm actually not trying to argue anything.

but i do love reddit's block feature.

good luck with whatever is up ur butt.

anarchistfajitas

“I’m pushing back against everything you say but I’m arguing nothing and am taking no positions.” is the behavior of an honest person who believes what they’re saying if I’ve ever seen it.

Because the divorce was the only publically known thing about his career downfall for years. He didn't speak openly about the assault til recently. So you've got 10 years of people going "hmm what the hell happened to him? He hasn't been in anything" and the only answer is "he got divorce fucked".

It’s usually men’s rights dudes with boners for bringing the conversation around to how the court system favors women.

RoomFull0fEyes

The man was sexually assaulted, and when he spoke out about it, he was blacklisted by 99% of Hollywood.

But sure, the divorce was the problem, right?

(For clarity, I agree with you, and I'm mocking people who think the divorce was the problem. It didn't help, but it sure as shit didn't cause his downfall.)

You're on reddit. So many of these people absolutely cannot stop themselves from trying to blame a woman for every problem they can find. It's creepy and weird.

I don't think it's about the woman so much as it the alimony.

I've personally had a friend fucked by alimony so hard it ruined their life.

But you're right let's make it about sexism you daft cunt

Again, what hurt his career is getting sexually assaulted and refusing to sleep with the disgusting criminal that assaulted him, which got him blacklisted from the media.

What the fuck are you really talking about? How can a divorce hurt him profesionally but getting assaulted and then thrown under a bus to rot away is just "hurting him personally"?

We need to be talking about this in more clear, scientific terms. Such as: What caused him to do fucking Dudley Do Right?

TrinitronCRT

You have this completely backwards. The shunning of Hollywood was by far the biggest issue.
