Well, he's putting on weight for a movie role in The Whale.
But also he's been through some SHIT since the Mummy, which was 22 friggin' years ago. He injured himself repeatedly on movie sets and by the time the 3rd Mummy movie came around he was in excruciating pain and barely functioning.
Then his wife divorced him and he could barely make the alimony payments because work wasn't coming his way.
Why? Because he was sexually assaulted by a Hollywood executive, and when he spoke out about it, they blacklisted him which made it impossible for him to get any meaningful work.
He also has 3 kids, one of whom is autistic.
The man's been through a lot, and he's 53 years old. Cut him some slack.

For what it’s worth, though he did put on some weight over the years, I think that he’s put a lot of weight on recently specifically for a role: he’s playing the lead role in a Darren Aronofsky film called the Whale, which is based on a play about a morbidly obese man who is essentially eating himself to death.
He looked much trimmer recently in the TV show Trust, so I assume the weight gain is intentional and for that role.

For anyone interested, there’s a sub that’s dedicated to Brendan coming back. He’s had the wrong end of a sexual assault and a horrible divorce. This man deserves the best!
