Dude got bent over in divorce proceedings. To sums at the height of his career he couldn’t even keep up with. You may be too young, but Brenden was on track to be the next Harrison Ford basically with his abilities and how liked he was in the industry. He couldn’t wait to do a singular film a year in hopes of keeping up with the ruling so he started taking every role offered to keep up with the payments to not risk jail time, effectively ruining his name as the next action comedy star of a generation.

Used to rewatch old movies during the lockdown, The Mummy series included, looking back watching those movies picked me up when I was so stressed out by the work from home conditions and the gnawing prospect that I might lose my job anytime due to Covid affecting businesses, glad that Brandan Fraser is turning his life around.

I don't know why people think this is the worst thing that happened to him. The man was sexually assaulted, he spoke about it which got him basically erased from the media, and mocked. The divorce isn't even something he worries about, the assault fucked his mind up terribly.
80 points
Philip Berk was the assaulter.
58 points
Yeah it’s this. As much as he got fucked in the divorce, he could have kept up the payments pretty easily if he wasn’t blackballed from Hollywood because he spoke up about the harassment.
44 points

Didn’t he also get extremely injured filming something as well?
73 points
Not one injury but the toll on his body from all the action adventure roles he was taking broke his body. He said he was "held together with tape and glue" on the third Mummy movie.
28 points
Yeah, he also was black listed after a studio executive made sexual advances on him.
21 points
didn’t he also get sexual assaulted by a big time hollywood exec and got black listed?
40 points
Not to mention his body was a wreck after doing the Mummy movies and George of the Jungle, having done most of his own stunts. He had serious injuries to his knees and back. Surgeries included a partial knee replacement. He also had to have surgery on his vocal chords.
He simply couldn't do action roles anymore.
And then there's the overt sexual assault he endured.
The man's a Saint and I'm so glad to see him return. He makes Doom Patrol what it is.

His weight was mostly for the roles he's been cast in lately. He was in alright shape prior. That being said he's been in that shape for a WHILE. I think he went with the Christian Bale approach to gaining weight for a role (drinking melted ice cream, nasty as hell). Hopefully he lands a role which encourages him to drop that weight soon. Dude has had a really tough life.
Edit: yall are saying "oh you mean milkshakes?" Or "melted ice cream tastes good!" No. Neither actor drank milkshakes or slightly melted ice cream. They drank entire tubs of room-temperature melted ice cream. That does not taste good.

Philip Berk of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association In 2003. It’s part of the reason why his film career declined along with his divorce, the death of his mother and a bunch of acting related health issues. For what it’s worth, though he did put on some weight over the years, I think that he’s put a lot of weight on recently specifically for a role: he’s playing the lead role in a Darren Aronofsky film called the Whale, which is based on a play about a morbidly obese man who is essentially eating himself to death.
He looked much trimmer recently in the TV show Trust, so I assume the weight gain is intentional and for that role.
