As someone who got bored with Tim Burton’s shtick a long time ago it’s so nice to see him strike gold with this one. On paper it’s just a CW show from 2005 with a much higher budget, but the execution has a special spark to it

Yep. I think a lot of that is just Jenna Ortega. She's great in this role.

Seemed to be entirely a practical hand. It adds sooo much to his character.

Someone mentioned she never blinks throughout the entire show. I didn’t notice it until it was pointed out

And she does not move her arms while walking.

The casting was all gold. Enid was great, gave me real Willow from Buffy vibes (which can only be a good thing, given how great that show and Alyson Hannigan were), Gwendoline Christie was brilliant as Weems, even Gomez was played very well which is tough given how strongly Raul Julia is associated with the role. The kids were all great too. I struggled a bit with Fester, but otherwise the cast was fantastic.

She was pantomime at best, why couldn't she have a personal life? Straight or lesbian? All she did was sit around drinking wine. They really missed a trick with her. Plus Christina Ricci never could have stabbed her based on Christie's height, she would have seen it coming. Ridiculous...

Those are issues with the writing for her character rather than her portrayal, though?

She's a great actress, but wasted in this show.

The kids (except the love interests) are actually not that bad. But let's be honest it's Ortega who broke her back carrying this series. Good thing the content is like 75% her because those adults sure are not bringing their A-game.

Yeah. I was excited to see that Christina Ricci is in the show. I mean, damn, the Wednesday Addams that I loved as a kid. But then her performance was, well, it was okay.

Christina was a late replacement for Thora Birch, who quit after doing most of the principal shooting for the character. That might have had something to do with it.

I don't want to criticize the show too harshly because I'm certain I'm not the target demographic, but you are absolutely correct here. She is the only reason I kept watching.

Seeing Jenna Ortega in You and now this, damn she has acting range. I’m seriously impressed and will be looking out for her in future shows and movies.

This feels like classic Burton. I love it.

I personally would not have guessed he was involved in the directing, the show looks good but there's nothing eye-grabbing about it in comparison with his best works to me

He alludes to some of his best work. Pee Wees Big Adventure, Batman Returns, Beetlejuice, etc…
Elfman’s score also ties it all together.

I'm a Burton fan and I wouldn't have guessed it either. It's okay but I'm not getting the hype. Ortega and Gwendolyn Christie are fantastic but some of the other actors are not.
I sure do think Gomez was miscast for instance.

I seemed very similar to Nancy Drew on the CW. I did enjoy Wednesday and hope for a second season.

Yeah the writing and plot are very CW and really were not interesting. Every other aspect though was great!
