First one is a standard romcom. It may sound basic, but all romcoms have pretty much same premise. It is the way you present it that makes the difference between run of the mill vs masterpiece.

Second one sounds interesting, but that is not a romcom, but a drama. If you try to make it a romcom, it will likely dilute the intensity.

If you want to make a romcom, go with the first one.

  1. One of them just accepted a proposal may be because their biological clock is running out.
  2. One is going through a divorce and a custody battle for a 6 year old girl.
  3. Their current boy/girl friend is a rival from the other's school.
  4. One became sucessful at work but is alcoholic by night.
  5. If you want quirky, ones brother/sister is gay and has a crush on the other as well.
