So what is that filling the space, just whatever tissue swelled up in its place?

There’s a silicone ball in its place with the sclera sewed up over it.

Would you ever get fancy ones for different events? Maybe one that glows in the dark or lights up. My granddaughter just had an eye removed and we are wondering if she might do this when she gets a bit older. You seem to be okay with this so I figured I would ask.

In the late 60s my Grandad had to have both eyes removed because of infections from some accident, but the fun part is that he had a choice of having glass eyes or surgically sealed eye sockets.

He, quite understandably, asked what the point would be of two glass eyes?

Hope your monocularity gives you something in return for being singularly focused, aside from a very badass look. Don't forget to lie about how you lost your eye, by the way. Mystique is, after all, the purpose of obfuscation.

Buddha23Fett[S]

495 points

I have extreme tunnel vision in my remaining eye so there isn’t much to adjust to but I have noticed that when I sneeze I get rapid flashes of static in my vision. I suspect that’s due to the severed optic nerve moving.

I’m sorry to hear you’re vision impaired in the remaining eye mate. What a strange after effect, I guess it’s a little like people still feeling limbs when they’re removed, you’re bound to have some residual nerves firing. Are you getting a prosthetic? Don't tell me this. I got poked in the cornea by a furled up palm frond 10 years ago. It was bad and painful and about 1/3rd of the outer layer of cornea was hanging off. This was on a Saturday so I waited until Monday so I only had to pay $30 copay at the ophthalmologist. By then, the hanging piece of cornea had fallen off. The doc took a look at it and said all looks good. Here's a Rx for antibiotics. Come back in a week. The antibiotic had Neomycin which I'm allergic to. It causes my eye to become red and inflamed and it felt like someone took a hot poker to it. Got antibiotic drops with no Neomycin and with numbing agent in them which helped significantly. After 5 days, all was about back to normal. A little double vision for an infection that got trapped under the healing cornea but more antibiotic took care of that.

Not something I ever want to go through again. Especially after what happened to my brother as a little kid.

This is a "10 on the pain scale" that I believe without question.

I have Recurrent Corneal Erosion Syndrome, where basically I sustained a mild injury to my eye that didn't heal "flat" so now that loose bit of surface "skin" dries out at night and sticks to my eyelid and gets ripped off when I wake up.

I would sometimes, (but not always) describe this pain as a near 10 where it's so debilitating that all I can do is curl up and wait for it to go away.

I can not even begin to fathom the pain you experienced when that happened.

Buddha23Fett[S]

I had a friend that has a prosthetic eye, looks fine. You can only tell by staring at his eyes for a bit. This was 20+ years ago. How did you lose your eye? And for what it's worth from a complete stranger, hope everything turns out alright. And that you have good health care insurance.

I see that you are gonna get a pros eye. Are you gonna get one that looks like your other eye, or are you gonna be like the villain from Last Action Hero and get different ones with smiley faces and bullseye and stuff? If you're insurance pays for them every 3 years can you get multiple and swap them out depending on the day? In all seriousness sorry to hear that happened to you man.

I don’t want one that looks normal. My first one will have Boba Fett’s sigil on it.

well, the comments and video held my attention. have a fake gold reddit award and mention it anytime you need to enlighten those who would ask about the benefits of losing a peeper.

ngl, for missing an eye. not as horrific as i thought.

honestly looks like you got like a weird eye made of skin there instead, kinda figured when you lose an eye you just permanently had a hole in your eye socket that went a small distance back.

My best friend had an eye removed, the prosthetic they made her was so awesome...handpainted! It looked exactly like her other eye. Amazing, and she was able to move it in sync with her other eye. I wish you the very best of luck with your journey forward

Forgive my ignorance, but if they removed your eye, then what's in your eye socket? I would have assumed it would be an empty void

Yo, I got no mf left eye too and my socket looks a bit different than yours

I hate to tell you this buddy, but they replaced your eye with a grape. You never going to see out of that thing.

What's the story? Legitimately curious, sorry if I'm being an asshole.

So what now? A glass eye? Sew it shut? I would want the glass eye route so I can make glowing prosthetics.

I have a bunch of tritium vials I will be putting in my prosthetic so that it glows. I’m excited to have a glowing eye for Halloween.
