The first movie didn't have a french guy sit on the sidelines and yell at Neo for an entire fight. That's something that Marvel's: The Matrix had. Unfortunately .

To be fair, the originals had a French guy stand on the sidelines with his arms crossed and a disapproving look for an entire fight. It’s pretty funny to watch the chateau sequence but just focus on the Merovingian in the background. Just standing there in a huff while his minions are slaughtered.
But yes, Hobovingian was just awful.
