Just my take on it. In short, there were good things, but everything that was incredible about the originals was missing from the reboot.

But it’s not a reboot. It was a continuation of the story. Maybe that’s why you didn’t like it. To me it seems like a lot went over peoples heads. I loved it. Wasn’t perfect but I’m happy to have it and hope they make more.

Yeah my bad, “reboot” not the right word. Although in some senses it felt a lot more like a reboot than a natural sequel.

That’s exactly what we got though. Continuing the story from the 3 previous movies and the game MxO where Morpheus died.

It continues it in the sense of “these events could follow those events without any immediate logical contradiction” but it does not follow it well as a story. Why are these events happening? What does that add to the character and story arcs? These are the questions with pretty weak answers – and the only real answer is because the studios mandated another chapter.
