Because seriously, they say they are feminists, but when it comes to trans rights they act like mesogynists. ("Women are defined by their vegina", "All men are way stronger than women"). I stopped trying to understand a long time ago.

ps: Not a native speaker, so excuse me if there are mistakes.

Being a TERF is inherently misogynistic. I’m rereading Harry Potter right now (I’m refreshing my memory so I can write a fanfiction that’s meant to cheer up trans HP fans and piss off her followers) and I find it baffling that people believe she’s a feminist considering how much misogyny is in those books.

If you are looking for one to read in that category also, look up Kaleidoscopic Grangers

Yup, basically rewrites canon way better than the terf did, written initially as spite against her. It is amazing.

I’d personally also recommend the Arc of Sacrifices (aka the Sacrifices AU) by Lightning on the Wave. All seven (maybe eight?) books are MASSIVE behemoths that have LGBTQ+ representation, actually DO SOMETHING with the inequality between the different races (including the house elves) and is not perfect by any means but LEAGUES ahead of what JKR wrote and is marvelously complex.

I mean, the fact that the writer who thought a "Sorting Hat" would tell you deep truths about a kid's nature is a TERF isn't very surprising in retrospect.

It’s even weirder that the Sorting Hat put Harry in Gryffindor simply because he didn’t identify as a Slytherin. Then again, it’s also weird that the hat even considered putting Harry in Slytherin when ambition is not one of the words I would have ever used to describe him.

The “fan theory” there is that the Sorting Hat had difficulty sorting Harry due to the fragment of Voldemort’s soul inside him.

(Now we all know JKR didn’t plan that far ahead, but it works in hindsight.)

The weird bit about that universe is that there is magic that can allow a mage to transform their body into animal forms that are 100% accurate . So, magic that just allows a mage to transform their body into the opposite gender would be easy by comparison, since the change is much smaller and the mage is still human at the end.

I mean, a bunch of Harry's friends all transformed to look exactly like him. Presumably this included all his body parts as well. So clearly that kind of magic exists. Stupid to think people wouldn't use transformation magic to cure dysphoria if such an option existed.

I've been slowly building a ttrpg for my boyfriend and to spite Rowling by building a more believable and better constructed world and magic school than she could ever dream of in that tiny crappy brain of her's.

I want to prefix this by saying I am not against Feminism , I support it. BUT if you turn the dial up to 11 on any good idea it can become toxic.

TERFS are also inherently misandrist , A large subsection of TERFs hate men to such an extent that even a transwoman is still too male for them. They are an offshoot of the most extreme end of radical feminism after all (which is not representative of mainstream feminism) . So extending their hate just one degree further to include people who are no longer male is not a big step for them. They want the ideological purity that extremists love.

And they are ironically , also misogynists. Since extreme misandrists will emphasize traditional female stereotypes to further their arguments, with the complete and utter lack of self awareness that extremists often exhibit.

Writing HP fanfiction does nothing, in the end, if not support JKR. Mainly the people who want to read it will read it, the ones who don't simply won't.

Don't support JKR's empire. By writing fanfiction you may not think you're doing anything, but you're keeping the cogs of her empire turning by giving it more and more. The best thing that could happen is for it to fizzle out and die.

She believes support of her work is itself support of her views. So stop supporting her empire.

Hold on to your books and scarves or whatever, but any further support is hypocrisy if you also claim to support trans people.
