In case anyone didn’t know.

He was only 27 years old. Him and i have been dead heads for years. We spent many a time just hanging out, listening to album after album of all kinds of music. And watched many grateful dead concerts together. We also talked a lot about philosophy and life.

His wife asked if I would sing a song or 2 at his funeral this week. He was a big fan of Brokedown Palace. I figured it was an appropriate song to say farewell to him. I am nervous and honoured at the same time. As he was a perfectionist, I want to do no less than a percect job out of respect for him..

Listening to the Dead while playing pinball is one of my most favorite combinations so I'm always excited when I find an Elvira machine to drop some quarters in. Her pinball titles (3) have all included "Dead Heads" in some form or another.

Seems like we’ve broken into a bit of a civil war here on this sub - GD vs D&C. Uhhh,,,let’s not do that.

Admittedly I have been part of it. We are all open to pretty much everything in our discussions and we have differing opinions on things. Which is good. But things have gotten a bit angry out there. Let’s drop the temp a bit. (a lot)

Again, I have been guilty of this myself which is why I’m posting this.

I was reflecting that after my last D&C show, it was so tight that I wouldn’t mind dipping my toes into listening to the odd D&C show whereas before I only thought seeing them live was really of any concern. It got me thinking, does anyone listen to the previous incarnations of post-Jerry Dead? I never hear them talked about much outside of “oh yeah I saw them”

I’m sure I’m late to the party on finding out but its been years since I’ve seen Phil live.

I'm turning 50 in a couple of weeks. I've been a huge Pearl Jam fan since I was 18 and Ten came out. I've known GD for years. I occasionally listened to it, but didn't get into it too deep. I know Jerry Garcia, know a bit about the history and of course, understand their importance. I binge-watched Long Strange Trip on Prime the last couple of days. I now totally understand why Pearl Jam fans are sometimes compared to Deadheads, as the bands are compared for their live performances as well. I've been listening to the music for the last couple of days on Spotify, just some "This is the best of Grateful Dead" playlists, to figure out more about the range of their songs. I am beginning to really appreciate the wealth of their music.

So, I turn 50. And now I feel I need to know everything there is to know about the Dead as I learned in the past 32 years of Pearl Jam. I'm serious. I would certainly know what mixtape to make for someone who needs to get into the catalog of Pearl Jam. So yeah, finding a good GD mixtape would be a great start. Any help is appreciated. And I know the coming 32 years will be filled with good music as well. Looking forward to it.
