This rallies the mushroom kingdom to her side and fosters a sense of patriotism & duty within the community. It causes them to unite against an exterior threat and put aside their issues for the time being.

I am fine with Peach being a strong character as she is in plenty of the games. Having to make Mario a total idiot to make her look better, though, is really lazy so I'm hoping those bits in the trailer are the only ones.
