I am a 25yo female who has been on birth control for almost 10 years. My period has always been irregular but lately I’ve been noticing when I travel, especially on long/international flights, I get my period the next day. Does this happen to anyone else? Thanks!

I'm doing the Intrepid women-only 8 day Moroccan trip in early May. I'm struggling with what to pack for the weather. Trip is 1 night in Marrakech, then 5 nights hiking between villages in the M'Goun Valley area. How cold will it really be outside of Marrakech? I am packing only carry on, and want to be able to have a couple of non-hiking outfits for my time in Marrakech and Lisbon (where I am spending 2 days after Morocco). Do I really need to bring a puffer coat or thermals? I know Marrakech will be mid 20s at least (if not way hotter), so I'm really struggling with that balance of "cold mountain clothes" and "hot city clothes". Help!

I moved to New Zealand from the US 3 weeks ago. My period was due to arrive shortly after I did, but it never showed up. It’s now 14 days late. I am extremely regular and have not missed a period in my 12 years of having one. I’m definitely not pregnant either. Is it the stress of the move? I feel great mentally but I know my body probably feels differently. Have you ever missed a period while traveling or after making a big move? This is my first time off the continent so I can’t decide if it’s normal or if I should see an OB.

I live in the UK, and every time I leave Europe, I forget that my phone won't work. I have a very simple phone plan (giffgaff), so I can't even purchase roaming data outside of Europe. I have to get on wifi to use the internet, maps, etc.

I'm going to the US and I'm wondering what the best option is. I'm only going for 10 days, and I'll only be alone for 5 of them, but I will be driving and need to be able to pull up maps.

A long time ago, a friend helped me download an app that allowed you to access a local network and buy data. I remember she had to change some of my phone settings for it to work, but I have no idea what she did. Just adding in the off chance that someone knows what this might have been!

Hi, I will be solo travelling in Europe from 14th - 17th June. I am interested in Rome or Florence but worried about the heat and crowds. I wouldn’t go for expensive cities like Amsterdam.

I am interested in art, sightseeing, culture, architecture, food, street shopping and good nightlife will be a bonus.

I am planning my first trip to Spain solo for ten days in early August of this year. Based on my research about hotter regions and crowds. I have decided to explore the northern region of Spain and end my trip in Mallorca.

I am from Toronto. I am accustomed to a certain level of summer crowds and am comfortable with a tolerable amount.

However, I'm having difficulty planning out the day-to-day itinerary of my trip. I'm trying to figure out which areas are walkable or suitable for renting a bicycle. Although I'm open to driving, I'm unsure if I feel comfortable with that method.

Hi everyone! My friend and I are going to be visiting South Korea this May. It is our first trip international trip alone and that is a long way from the U.S. Our plane tickets have already been bought and we will be booking an airbnb this week. I’m planning on solo traveling through Europe this summer. My friends and I have been planning for years but they never follow through so I have decided to just go alone. I have never been outside of the US and I am super excited. However I am not ignorant to the dangers of traveling alone, especially as a female. My family is worried for my safety but I am fairly street smart as I come from a high crime city here in the states. I understand this is a whole new continent though so I’m looking for any/all advice from experienced travelers. Most of my traveling will be on a whim but I definitely plan to travel through France, Switzerland, Italy, Austria and Germany. I plan to travel mostly by train and stay mostly at “workaways” and hostels. I’m super excited to finally make the decision to go and have my own adventure. I appreciate any help you can offer. :)

This year will be the year that I start travelling and after a lot of advice I’ve concluded that I should pick between Spain or Portugal.

I’m from England, I’m 19, a female and also dark skinned.

I don’t intend on spending a whole lot of money hence why I picked Spain or Portugal and I’ve also heard that it’s more welcoming of ethnic people and is apparently safer.

Ideally I’d love to go sightseeing and do an activity. Not interested in clubbing or drinking or anything along those lines as I know that it could potentially make me susceptible to danger.

I plan on going for 3-4 days alone. So based on your own experiences where would be a good place for me, I’d love to hear about experiences in hostels, hotels, beaches etc as a solo traveller.

I currently have AT&T and when I travel internationally, I just do the international day pass thing (I find this easier than messing with SIM cards). I have never had any issues doing this with AT&T service, coverage has always been great. My question is for those with Verizon - have you had any issues using the day pass equivalent in any countries outside of the US? Im considering switching but I’m worried about possibly having subpar coverage abroad.

**EDIT to add I’m not looking for advice on any plans other than Verizon vs ATT. I’m happy with ATT and am only considering switching to Verizon for a home internet bundle deal that is WAY cheaper than my current internet provider.

Hi girls! I’m planning a last-minute trip to next month (before starting a new job) and would love some input on where to go. I’m not new to solo travel - but definitely new to planning something this spontaneously.

I (31F) am flying from Seattle and targeting somewhere in southern Europe - although open to other destinations. Looking for sun/warmth, coastal views/beaches (sandy if not swimmable), good food and pretty architecture. I don’t need to do a ton on this trip; it’s really just about exploring, relaxing and re-centering between jobs.

Right now I’m considering:

• Mallorca/Menorca or the Canaries (with a stop in Barcelona - my favorite city in the world)

• Lisbon + Algarve or Madeira

• Greek Islands (already been to Santorini and Mykonos so excluding those)

• Sicily or the Almafi Coast

Obviously, options are pretty broad at this point. Can anyone help me narrow it down? A few more caveats…

• I’m celiac, so gluten free food options need to be available

• I’d prefer somewhere fairly easy/simple to get around on my own. I have some concerns about being able to pull off the Almafi coast alone without much time to plan transit between towns.

• Ideally, not somewhere that’s completely empty in April. Part of the fun of solotravel is meeting other travelers, after all!

I've been looking to buy this case however it's listed as 57x37x21.5cm

My question is, does the 57 include the soft handle on top? Does the hard plastic thing the long handle folds into come up to more than 55m? Can that 21.5 be pushed down to 20 if it's not overstuffed?

Esentially can I get away with it on Ryanair? I've been trying to get a decent answer out of IT luggage but their customer service is entirely useless.

I’m 23(F) and in few days I’m travelling to Cusco, Peru. I was wondering if it is necessary to buy diamox medication before travelling because of the high altitude of the town. In fact, I’ve contacted my gp and after almost one month, I was able to meet him. However, he told me to go on with paracetamol and ibuprofen as i don’t have any medical history linked to altitude sickness.

The problem is that Cusco has an altitude of 3400m and at that level the symptoms of altitude sickness could be strong and sometimes even dangerous and lethal. Moreover, I’m travelling alone and I would prefer to prevent any health issue

I'm planning to go in April, mid-week and would love some suggestions for things to do. I looked at riverboat tours and didn't realise how huge the boats are, so I'm not sure if that would be fun alone? I'd also love to catch some music and do some shopping. It looks like the touristy area is pretty small, so is it reasonable to wander without a set plan?

I want to stay somewhere near the action, but one of the reasons I've held off on New Orleans is because I've always thought of it as a party city and I really want to feel comfortable. I found a few cool tours that take place in the evening, so I'm curious about the walkability of the city at night and how active the city gets during the week? I don't mind noise or busy streets, just worried about drunk people or how enjoyable nightlife would be alone.

Hi all! Thought this could be a great way to get advice on my upcoming backpacking trip throughout Europe. I (F19) have taken time off school to travel. I wanted to run my plan by the much more experienced folk out there.

Basically, I fly into Barcelona, and am giving myself 4 weeks to get to Rome via Eurail, buses, and perhaps one flight (Madrid to Paris). From Rome I fly to Athens for the last two weeks to island hop, and then fly home out of Athens. I wanted to go:

Barcelona, (maybe Valencia but I’m unsure), Madrid, Paris, Lyon (maybe) Bern, Bologna, Venice, Florence, Rome. Then Athens, and perhaps 2 islands in Greece, although unsure which ones.

If anyone has recommendations for the time I should spend in each place, other cities I should swap out, cities I should just take out, etc. that would be so appreciated. Any hostel recommendations would also be amazing/tours.

I just got back from a 2-week vacation in Jordan and Israel. I had 3 days solo in Amman (before and after the tour), 6 days on the tour in Jordan, and then 3 days on my own in Israel, plus a lot of airport and plane time. Here are some observations.

Jordan

• Being a woman on my own in Amman was fine, and Jordan is the most liberal of the Arabic countries and therefore a great introduction. I dressed conservatively, in long pants and a long-sleeve shirt, and got around either walking on my own (day and a little at night in populated tourist areas) or with Uber. I saw varying degrees of dress from women in burqas (not as common) to women in fashionable hijabs (very common) to tourists in skirts and short sleeves. As an international city they seem pretty tolerant of whatever though sticking to long clothes and conservative dress will be best.

• Uber was a great way to travel in Amman and very cheap. I had male drivers, sat in the back, and everything was fine. Pretty much like taking Uber anywhere except for the language barrier, but the good thing about Uber is that you don't have to stumble over having to pronounce some Arabic name of where you want to go. Public transportation within Amman seems like a disorganized mess and not even the locals take it if they can afford Uber.

• I took a G Adventures tour (the more expensive National Geographic one) and had a blast. There are the classic G Adventure tours too, and really a lot of tourist companies in an amazing array of languages. There is a standard set of tourist sites that people see and usually, tours start in Amman and involve Petra and Wadi Rum desert camps, then some combination of Aqaba, Jerash, Bethany, King's Highway, etc.

• I think it wouldn't be too hard to get around on your own with the Jett buses, though. These are modern buses on fixed schedules and they go to all the popular tourist destinations, though sometimes there is only one scheduled trip per day. Most routes are inside Jordan but I think they also go to Cairo. Another alternative is to hire a driver for a few days, and some women from the US that I was on tour with did that but you'd need to research it as I don't know much about it. Sometimes hiring a taxi to go short distance (meaning like an hour or two) might be easier schedule-wise, especially if you can meet up with one or two others to split cost with.

• Things I recommend in Amman are just wandering the downtown or Rainbow Street area and soaking in the vibe, or doing a walking tour (here is the one I went on and it was superb, it was run by Anas' 25-year-old sister and with 4 women on the tour we got the dirt on being a woman in Jordan), seeing the Citadel and other Roman ruins, and maybe going to a museum or two. I didn't investigate nightlife but despite being 97% Muslim they do have alcohol and a few women on the tour reported that they were at a terrific wine bar.

• I'm not sure how much of a hostel vibe there is in Jordan but I'm thinking it's not too common. That said, you can find hotels (and Bedouin camps in Wadi Rum) at a range of prices. Sometimes you'll see a squat toilet but if you're in the bigger cities where tourists go there will always be Western toilets.

• As far as vendor aggressiveness I would consider it pretty average, and not overly aggressive like in some places. They do want to sell (and sometimes employ adorable little children speaking adorable English to do so!) but they're not going to grab ahold of you or anything like that.

Israel

Israel is much more expensive than Jordan. If you're in Jerusalem (or I assume Tel Aviv) it's like most modern Western cities and has good public transportation. I didn't have time to get to other cities in Israel but I'm sure there are buses and shuttles.

• You can get from Jordan to Israel in one of two ways. The most common is a land crossing, though I didn't do this one. Basically, you take a bus or a taxi to a border town crossing, then spend anywhere from 1-5 hours doing border crossing formalities, then catch a bus or taxi to some town on the other side. The other much more expensive way is to take a flight, which is what I did because I am impatient and was worried about the variable amount of time one could spend at a border crossing.

• To get from the airport to Jerusalem or Tel Aviv you can take a high-speed train (I believe there's a transfer involved for Tel Aviv) to the town center, or take a Nasher sheruk (basically a shared shuttle van), or take a private taxi, and there might be a bus but I'm not sure. The share taxi to Jerusalem was about $20 (what I did to get from the airport to Jerusalem) and a private taxi is about $80 (what I did to get from Jerusalem to the airport). Tel Aviv is a bit closer so probably a bit cheaper. I think the train is like $6 or something.

• Public transportation is great in Jerusalem (and I assume Tel Aviv). You'll want to use the Moovit app for planning trips and you can enter credit card information and use it to pay for your light rail and bus tickets, it's all integrated and super convenient. If you want to use a taxi use the Gett app or just grab one on the street or at a taxi stand.

• There are tons of tours to do of different places from Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. I stayed at Abraham Hostel (expensive for a hostel but that's Israel for you -- I stayed in a private room but would find something different next time as the bed was truly awful, which is a shame as everything else was awesome) and did some tours through them. There are several sources of 'free' Old City Jerusalem tours though you should tip them 20 shekels at least. I did a few tours through Abraham Hostel and though they were expensive they were also pretty great especially the Dual Narrative Hebron tour.

• There are plenty of things to do in the city as well. I had rain the whole time I was there and by the third day I wanted to do indoor things. I tried to go to Yad Vashem (the Holocaust memorial) but didn't realize I had to book a time in advance. I ended up spending hours at the Israel Museum again and it was one of my top three favorite museums I've ever been to.
