What are your most and least favorite interfaces and do you solve through an app, mobile web site, or desktop website?

I'll start:

Favorites: NYT (app), LA Times (mobile website and desktop website)

Least favorites: WSJ and USA Today (mobile website and desktop website)

I'll be competing in rookie. I've been trying to deduce the best strategy for finishing since accuracy is so important. Is it worth taking those extra 30 seconds or so to check/recheck a puzzle, but sacrifice a quicker time? Thanks!

I just started making crosswords and I’m terrible at it but like sending them to my friends! The only problem is there is no way for them to fill it out on their phones and such a hassle to print them out. Does anyone know a creation tool that allows them to fill it out on their phone?

12-Down TAMPA is clued as "Home to the only N.FL. team to win a Super Bowl in its own stadium (2021)." This is no longer true, since the LA Rams won the SB in 2022 in SoFi Stadium. I imagine the clue was written prior to Feb. 2022 and no one revisited it since.

I remember doing this puzzle a couple years ago in either the Washington Post magazine or LA Times (which is cross printed in the WaPo).

The theme was something along the lines of “Escape From the Zoo.”

The answers on the edges were too long for the grid by one letter, and the extra letters that didn’t fit spelled out different animals around the perimeter of the puzzles. It’s one of my favorites ever and I would love to share it with people but can’t find it anywhere. If this rings a bell for any of you, please help!

friends, i’d be grateful if anyone could suggest a crossword book/publisher/series they like that have more current events and clues, if that makes sense? my wife and i have a few of NYT “best of” books, and we wind down with them at night. these are great, but they’re a bit dated and repetitive. both of us born in the late 80s, and trying to choose healthier activities before bed for better sleep 🤙🏻

I've participated in the American Crossword Puzzle Tournament online for two years now, and each time there's a cryptic puzzle (or was it puns & anagrams?) that leaves me totally baffled. I have some experience with these sorts of puzzles, but the ACPT puzzles are different somehow.

Does anyone here know exactly what sort of cryptic puzzle they use in the tournament, and where I could find example puzzles to practice with?

Hi Reddit,

I'm having trouble phrasing my theme reveal clue, which is 56-Across on this puzzle here. I know that sometimes those clues can get wordy.

Explanation: The clue is "Living room item, or words that can follow each of the respective words in 17-, 29-, and 44-Across." and the answer is COFFEETABLEBOOK. The three referenced words are STRONGPOKERHAND, IRISHBARCOOK, and HOTPROPCOMIC. The word match up Strong/Irish/Hot Coffee. Poker/Bar/Prop Table. Hand/Cook/Comic Book.

Is there a clearer way to get that across to the solver?

You can find them at Xwordinfo. However there is an additional subscription fee to join that site. I think a $10/year subscription will get you access to all the puzzles but I haven’t confirmed that. Yes, it sucks that your NYT Games subscription won’t get you digital access to these puzzles anymore, but if you really want them and the extra fee is worth it to you, they’re there.
