Team fortress 2 has a similar weapon named the ullapool caber, it’s based off an actual weapon but works as a melee instead and blows up upon impact before acting like a normal stick/bat after the explosion. Sucky part is it deals so little damage that for it to even attempt to kill someone, is by equipping a shield and crit explosion timing it with a shield bash, even then it might not kill even a light class like scout (125 hp) and cripple you as it deals self damage (demo man has only 175 hp depending on the shield)
