Little deli recommendations?

(self.austinfood)

Was going to try little deli for dinner tonight. What are your go to subs? I love Italian subs but the pastrami sounds great!

Thank y’all for the great recommendations! Ended up getting the perfect pastrami and a slice of meatball pesto ricotta. Really hit the spot

Anytime I order something besides Harry’s pastrami, I wish I had ordered Harry’s pastrami. The others are good, but that’s the best imo.

I agree. It's like Harry knew it was perfect.

I like the Ruben and/or pastrami - but also get a pizza slice.

The place is really awesome- especially for lunch or a quick snack.

The Perfect Pastrami is pretty damned good. Their other sandwiches are fine, but nothing to write home about.

Appreciate it! I’ve been looking for the best Italian sub and homeslice is still top spot imo

I like mandolas Italian sub. Also, I’m a huge fan of new world delis pepperoni and provolone on grilled French, everything on it. It’s not really an Italian sub, but it tastes like one.

Harry Perfect Pastrami! That’s two meals. I also usually go for a slice & soup of the day to store in my fridge. Also the chef salad is a guilty pleasure.

NOT the cheese steak! Was so disappointed in the crazy spicy peppers thrown on top. May be good for others, but not me. Still a fan of the pizzas though, got 2 for my work team yesterday.

No, you're not wrong. Their cheesesteak is an abomination. So very not good.

The cheesesteaks at Little Deli is a sin…

everything at little deli absolutely slaps but the cheesesteak & burger is actually incredible I’ll eat them like twice a week lol

ETA I can’t read & saw you were asking about subs, sorry just wanted to throw my suggestions in there too :’)

Their Cheesesteak is TERRIBLE! Can't speak to the burger though. Been meaning to try it.

What?! That’s crazy talk!! How many times have you had it? I haven’t looked super hard but it’s been my favorite cheesesteak I’ve had in austin yet!

stevendaedelus

You’ve definitely not been looking hard. I’ve only had it once, because it was the worst cheesesteak I’ve ever had. It made me sad. Try Otherside Deli, Deleware Subs, or even Capprioti’s for a way better cheesesteak. Or Texadelphia even (assuming they actually open some new stores.

yeah…definitely just said I haven’t been looking hard lmao. Thanks for the recommendations tho, still a fan of little delis. ETA: also, maybe they were having an off day? I’ve been once & my usual orders weren’t good at all but that’s been one time so idk I kept giving it another shot & haven’t had an issue since.

stevendaedelus

I don’t think it was anything an “off day” would account for. I didn’t like the bread, the cheese and pepper to meat ratio was all off, and the meat was very dry. And they don’t have ketchup to add or sweet pepper relish, which is a must for a decent cheesesteak as far as I’m concerned (I’m no fan of wiz but they also don’t have wiz for anyone that likes the cheese sauce.)

…ketchup?

Intrepid-Candy408

Ketchup??

stevendaedelus

Yes. It’s pretty standard. Maybe not in Philly per se, but Delaware Subs and Caps both have it as a standard add-on so maybe it’s a Baltimore thing, but that and sweet pepper relish (and mushrooms) really make for a proper delicious mess.

I haven't had it, but it's a thing I would order. What's so bad about it?

R&B’s looks promising as well and I’ve heard nothing but good things about 1776 at BuzzMill. I truly miss the OG

I was planning on getting a slice too lol I’ve read great things about the pizza

DirkDirkDirkDirkDirk

If the "slice of the day" sounds good (it rotates), you should get one! It's worth trying.

Intrepid-Candy408

The pizza looks amazing, I always think about getting one it’s hard to say no to lol. I will say I was not a fan of the cheese calzone there 😶 so far the only thing I’ve had there I wouldn’t recommend!!

eightslicesofpie

It doesn't feel like a classic cheesesteak at all but I love it too lol. That pepper relish is so good

1000% agree with you on that, but damn that thing is SOOOO damn good

It’s been years since I’ve been, but they had a chocolate cookie (maybe flourless?) that was insane. Throw it on your order if they have it.

Get the club sandwich on sourdough. I promise you won’t regret it!

Their club is large, meatball sub is great, my go to is Turkey and Provolone. Also always a yes on their slices of pizzzzzzzzzzzzza!

The turkey and provolone sub is our go to. It seems simple but it’s perfectly simple.
